Former Indonesian President, Mr. Suharto has passed away at 1.10pm (Indonesian time) , at the age of 86. He has been hospitalised since Jan 4, 2008 due to multiple organ failures but has been on a road to recovery since last week before slipping into a coma this morning. Deepest condolences.
Some facts of Mr. Suharto:
# the longest serving president in Asia, having ruled Indonesia for over 30 years before stepping down in 1998, due to pressure from mass demonstrations for a political reform
# widely known as the Bapak Pembangunan in Indonesia, for his efforts in rescuing the country from a catastrophic economic condition
# during his hospitalisation, he was still under trial for embezzling government funds during his term as the President to finance family investments
# his legacy is torn between the younger generation who sees him as a villian while the older generation sees him as a hero
