Bali-tu.

One of the many smaller streets or lanes in Kuta selling t-shirts. The advice from our guide was to walk till the furthest end (towards the more quiet area) then only start looking around since most of them sell pretty similar stuff. Chances in getting a good bargain are higher this way.

Outside the entrance into Galuh Bali Spa. Managed to strike a 25% discount for a 2 hours massage plus spa package - I think our guide either have some influence or stakehold in the spa because I recall our attendant looking at him before agreeing to the discount. Or perhaps its just my imagination.

We were ushered into a room-like hut with two beds and basically oiled then massaged - I tell you, these ladies are small but strong. After what felt like an eternity of bone crushings attempts, our bodies were applied with some cool but weird cucumber mixture then left to dry and srubbed off then reapplied with the same mixture and left to dry then scrubbed off again.

Lastly, we were left alone to take a quick shower then dip in a hot tub of water pre-mixed with unknown milkish substances and covered with petals of flowers, best! And just before your imagination runs wild, we were given disposable underwears, which I found was pretty fragile, to be worn throughout the whole session.

Jacklyn with one of the performers of the Kecak dance, more of this to come later.

The creature used in the Barong dance, more of this to come later as well.

One of the art galleries located either in or on-the-outskirts of Legian - the art pieces here, framed paintings or wood carvings range from as low as tens to ten thousands of US dollars. A very detailed painting of what I assumed to be a mythical lady did caught my attention but it was a little too pricey for its size, USD 55 after discount. Well, in the end, we did get something, favouring its carved wooden frame more than the painting actually, lols.

Men at work, seen here applying something onto the carving. When enquired, they mentioned it was petrol which was supposed to be able to protect the wood and gives the shining/reflective outcome, as seen above. Perhaps petrol refers to some other stuff in Bali.

This was at one of the wood carvings gallery, there will be more on this because it was one of the few places where photography was allowed. Jacklyn bought a chess set here and has prohibited me from utilizing it. For decorative purposes only, she says. But I paid for it reasoning had no effect.

CNY Randoms.

#1 - Lou Sang count as of today, January 30th, would be seven (7). Fortunately, its only a small portion per person as I'm starting to get a little sick of eating coloured flour sticks.

#2 - I strongly believe that the new year pants I am currently wearing has been accidentally switched, in design or size, by the salesperson. OR the wife has done it on purpose to constantly remind me that I'm fat. The waist area feels alright but my thighs are being wrapped tight like those aluminium foil slim wraps.

#3 - CNY before marriage is all about receiving.

#4 - CNY after marriage is all about giving. Other than the red packets, I have also been 'giving' out money in one of those common CNY activity.

#5 - pre-cny shopping is no longer just about getting new clothes and stocking up on CNY goodies is no longer a fun-filled affair because you have to pay for everything. A packet of mushrooms for 20 bucks, Ferrero Rocher for 20 bucks as well, a can of abalone for a hundred plus, 200 grams of tid-bits for 8 bucks, just to name a few. Somehow I do not recall everything being so expensive. I want to cry.

#6 - relatives' (uncles and aunts) favourite question number one:- so, how does it feels to be giving out red packets after the many years of receiving them? Favourite question number two:- when are we planning to have kids - which I think used to be - when I'm planning to tie-the-knot.

I predict that after my first child, which would not be that soon, they would be asking on the arrival of the second one.

#7 - I have not taken a single picture since chor yat (first day of CNY), camera makan dust.

#8 - I have not been consuming as much of cny goodies as I used to. It must be due to the presence the wife around me at all times, her aura of hey-you-fat-boy-don't-eat-so-much is so strong that everytime I reach out for a cookie jar, a reminder impulse is generated and sent to my brain automatically.

#9 - the wife has been reminding all those who received a red packet from her to get married next year as it would be the first and last one. The pressure from getting this ang pao is strong.

#10 - Has the ban on firecrackers been lifted already? I mean, I have been hearing fireworks every single night, here, there and everywhere since the Eve of CNY even at 1 or 2 in the morning and some of them packs a punch I tell you.

Finally.

Really have to apologize for the lack of updates lately especially since its the public holidays but I have been kept really busy with all those travelling and house visits that I end up on the bed motionless without fail every night. So drained of energy that even Russell Peters can't make me laugh - a hundred and thirty eight percent worst than slaving away in the office, seriously. Basically, the breakdown would be as follow:

Monday
- my maternal grandma's house in the morning until afternoon, potluck for lunch
- her maternal grandma's house in late afternoon
- out to pandan cahaya area to have dinner
- my mom's sister's house at night

Tuesday
- subang jaya for lunch with my maternal grandma and relatives, late morning till afternoon
- my dad's brother's house late afternoon till evening
- dinner at home
- her foster parent's house at night

Wednesday
- her friend's place in the afternoon
- my friend's place in kepong in the late afternoon
- dinner at some kepong BBQ restaurant
- her mother's sister's house at night in puncak jalil (from kepong, its one hell of a distance)

Thursday
- headed to JPJ with Jac, license 'renewal'
- lunch at home with relatives
- movie with family, All's Well Ends Well - quite funny
- finally got time to update blog again, before heading into office tomorrow

Yeap, I am starting work tomorrow mainly because an email circulation by a colleague of mine stated that it would be a good day for those born in the year of pig to start and also because most of the clients are ang mohs and overseas. I can already foresee that my inbox would be full of unread mails when I login tomorrow, sigh...

Happy Chinese New Year 2009.

Hello all. Just wanted to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy Chinese New Year 2009! May you be bestowed with good health (san thai kin hong), joy and happiness (hoi hoi sam sam), abundance in wealth (nin nin yau yue), those that are studying get good grades (hok yip junn bou), those working advance in career (bou bou gou sing), those doing business get even more business (sang yee heng loong) and all the other greetings which I am unable to translate.

Lou More Sang Okay? Its good stuff

Well, after many, many years of receiving red packets (ang paos), the time for me to be giving them out instead has finally arrived. Now I am dreading the fact that our parents have that many siblings - which used to be a good thing - resulting a lot of cousins, either married with children or unmarried. Sigh...

Tak Jadi.

There was a plan to head to Pangkor Island, her dad's hometown, not hers - the wife had kept insisting me on stating/mentioning it - but the plan tak jadi. In regards to the hometown thing, I mean it is technically correct since she was born in KL but the norm would be for the children to follow the parents', its sort of like an automated inheritance.

I guess it's just part of her rebellious nature that I have to bear with, for many, many years to come.

As for me, I never did experience the balik-kampung rush before, not that I'm longing for some - I've had enough of congestions on my daily commute to the office and back. My maternal grandparents - only my grandma now to be exact, grandpa has left us many years back - has been living in PJ for as long as I remember.

My paternal grandparents - both no longer around anymore - on the other hand used to live in the Jinjang Baru area. We still return there during the New Years as my uncle and his family remained there.

To be honest, I don't really fancy going there, loads of gangster ah bengs with modified kancils loitering around - I remember one of those year when a fight nearly broke out close to where I parked my car. So scary can! They were holding sticks and metal rods and bricks threatening one another and I just terminated my windscreen coverage on the previous renewal huhuhu. Luckily the police arrived and the gangs dispersed.

Anyway, I have to admit at that I was kinda excited of the prospect of balik-ing to her kampung until she dropped the bomb. Huhuhu. Maybe next year then...

Bali-wan

Arrived at Bali around six something in the evening on November 25, 2008. Have arranged for transportation with the hotel to and fro the airport prior to the trip, which is free btw and most hotels do provide this free airport-hotel tranportation btw-btw. Contacted our guide, recommended by a friend, who is quite fluent in English and listens to Mandarin songs.

No issues in language since we can converse in Malay even if the vocabs a little different. Its onne of those rare occasions when the language we learnt for the past 11 years is useful overseas, so, make full use of it. He took us to this seaside restaurant, Bali Club Cafe or something like that, around Jimbaran then disappeared, I mean left us alone to have makan at our own sweet time doing whatever we wanted to.

Seafood dinner on the sandy beach, sorry too late already no more sunset. Those dudes you see sitting in front of us are performers, moving from table to table singing songs, playing musical instruments. The vocalist cum guitarist can beat us at karaoke hands down any given time. Not sure whether they're independent or hired by the restaurant cause I neither paid nor tipped them, though I thought of doing so but in the end didn't, hahaha. Due to miscalculation and conversion, our first meal in Bali was pretty expensive.

View of hotel in the morning

Headed out to Kuta the following day since we weren't really sure of what to do yet. Strolled along the beach, shopped a little, everything seems to cost at least a hundred thousand rupiahs or more, surrounded by branded stuff. Marvelled at the huge ass double-storey Rip Curl and Roxy stores, being impressed by the number of temples all around, all those touristy stuff you know.

Okay, sien joh, continue next time.

Milo.

An all time favourite drink of mine. I still remember back then when I was attending a course in Singapore, the trainer actually questioned on the validity of Milo's advertisement and its infamous tagline which I'm pretty sure most of us already know it by heart - minum Milo anda jadi sihat dan kuat. It literally means drink Milo and you will become strong and healthy, btw.

So, the trainer said, he will never be able to understand how a simple chocolate drink is supposed to make you strong and healthy, as portrayed through athletes of various diciplines doing their stuff in the advertisements.

But, its even more difficult to accept the fact that Malaysians actually buy it, as in the concept of Milo being a healthy drink. Worst are the extra sweet and thick versions by mamak or their speciality, milo dinosaur which packs a punch, both positively and negatively.

Anyway, the main purpose of this post is to announce that I have finally found my ultimate super sedap Milo recipe! Eureka! Because we have to make our own cup of Milo in the office, I have been able to experiment with various combinations and on this day, I have achieved the pinnacle of Milo making.

And being the super duper generous me, I have decided to share my secret recipe with all my friends and readers out there, in the spirit of giving during CNY. Be warned that to me, its a heavenly combination but for you, it might just be the worst thing you have ever placed into your mouth.

Behold, Jed's ultimate Heavenly-Cup-O-Milo recipe:

- Use a cup that's about 150-200 ml in capacity
- 1 tablespoon of sugar, the normal type
- 2 large tablespoons of Milo
- Add half a cup of hot water and stir
- 1 tablespoon of a white powderish substance which I assume to be CoffeeMate (tbc)
- Add the other half cup of hot water and stir
- Drink and be amazed

Well, there you have it. Be warned, again - try it at your own risk. Ensure you have bought your PA, H&S and Life insurance policies before proceeding, in the event that something unfortunate occuring upon drinking Jed's ultimate Heavenly-Cup-O-Milo, you are already well prepared for it. Thank you.

Bali.

In the midst of drilling through the forgotten archives and reorganizing the massive libraries, I came across a folder titled Bali trip. Yeah, its the one that I had back in November 2008 - nowhere to be found in this blog. Champion. Guess its better late than never but until I figure out the best way out of posting all 400+ pictures, here's a teaser of what's to come.

Mimpi Tak Ngeri.

The last time I recalled a dream clearly, it was a terrible nightmare - a whole night of hiding and running from hideous, flesh devouring creatures and monsters - so much of movement to the extend that I felt a numbing sensation on my feet when finally awaken.

And this time around, it had to be one of the weirdest, out-of-nowhere and none conclusive dream ever.

It started with me driving along Jalan Semantan, along the stretch where a landslide occured sometime back, heading towards the national museum then exit to Loke Yew - a route that I frequent when working in Damansara Intan back then. So, as I said, I was driving.

A little later, I was passing an Indian man sitting by the road side, holding a blood drenched cloth onto his forehead. A Malay lady was next to him and from where I was looking from, she seems to be shouting and screaming at him angrily. Not wanting to be a busybody, I moved on.

A little further, I arrive to a scene of accident. A truck had rammed onto the road divider and its load of 1.5 litres 100 Plus bottles were strewed all across the road. Upon navigating closer with extreme difficulty, the driver was nowhere to be seen nor found and for a moment then, I was wondering if he/she got flung like, really, really far away during the impact. I moved on.

A little more down the road, I was driving through a carpet of nasi, should be either briyani or kunyit due to its yellow colour in nature. To the left (to the left, everything you own in the box to the left - sorry, couldn't stop myself), I could see an Indian man lying motionless on the road, arms and legs wide spread - similar to the position when trying to make 'angels' on the snow. Beside him were two other Indian men quarreling.

The thing is, a fallen motorcycle beside them had rice, either kunyit or briyani as mentioned, continuosly flowing out of a brass pot tied on its rear. I know, wtf right...

That's not the end, further down, right in front of the national museum, a few men can be seen screaming and running away frantically from a stationary Coca-Cola truck, which actually looks more like an oil tanker, that has its rear left area being jacked-up. Moments later, the jacked area crashed onto the ground with a loud boom and caused a puncture on the tank. Coke, I assume, since its a Coca-Cola truck, begin spraying out and everywhere.

I got out of the car with a cup in hand and tried to fill it with Coke then I terjaga.

Now, you tell me, weird or not? In actual fact, I'm more interested to know if this dream means anything/got hidden messages. Enlighten me, anyone?

Jikalau.

An inside joke. Here are some of the images from his pre-birthday celebrations @ Souled Out, Desa Sri Hartamas two weekends back. Didn't take that many due to starvation, right hand unable to comprehend the weight of the machine.

Due to bad photoshop-ing because I am like that, the Oreo cheesecake baked by KucingPeniru that he's cutting looks like a totally burnt piece of... something. But its nom-nom-yummy

HaChiu.

Recently, I've made a pretty interesting discovery about myself when blogging, only applicable to none-images-loaded entries - seems like I am more capable and inspired to write when using Blogger's interface directly compared to doing it on notepad or word first, then do the cut and paste. Words flow like a peaceful stream when using the former while the latter frequently cause blockages and state of blankness in mind.

I think the number of drafts are quickly catching up with the total number of posts. Seriously. Wait just a minute, I am currently experiencing this sensation - the thought of having mentioned the prior sentence is now lingering at the back of my head, hhmmm...

Onwards to other stuff. Lately, I seem to be surrounded by sick people no matter where I am. In the office, most of my colleagues have fallen ill but refused to take MC due to workload hence spreading viruses around every nook and corner - sheesh. At home, the wife has been infected by flu and coughing over the past few days, doesn't seem to be getting any better.

Somehow, I have a feeling that my turn to fall sick will come pretty soon *but still touchwood first* please don't be so cruel to me since Chinese New Year is just around the corner, one more week only! I seriously do not wish to be prohibited from touching all those good food and snacks and all those junk food!

Summore everytime I 'lou sang' I wish for everyone to have good health all the time one leh!

Okay, gotta go, have a great weekend yah! Cheers! I think mine shall be pretty occupied with Luminous Arc 2 hohoho. Somebody's not gonna be totally unhappy bout this.

Epic Fail In-The-Making.

I accidentally elbowed the wife on her cheekbones while imitating her action of rubbing the index and middle finger against the nostrils in an attempt to reduce the itchiness. It started with a thud, followed by a scream and ended with a bucket of tears.

Abusive Husband 1, Awesome Husband 0

I saw a pretty chun chick while dining with her parents and relatives one Sunday evening. I signalled the wife to that direction to have a look as well... woops, wrong move. Upon affirming on my discovery - that the subject is pretty chun, she proceeded to enquire if I regretted marrying her.

Gatal Husband 1, Awesome Husband 0

Instead of spending the night cuddling and talking while staring into each other's eyes and doing what every newlyweds should be doing *I'll leave that to your imagination*, I am either gaming on my NDS Lite or blogging or facebook-ing while out of total boredom, she either watches the TV, read some magazine or just sleep.

Ignorant Husband 1, Awesome Husband 0

There goes my 2009 resolution to be the most kick-ass and awesome husband in the whole wide world ever! I better start doing something before its too late!

A conversation with the wife's younger sister, A, whilst having sour and spicy crab during abovementioned dinner (in #2):

A : Wah, very hot. You don't feel hot one meh holding the crab like that?

Me : This is thanks to the past 20 plus years of training.

A : 20 only meh? Admit old lah, 2009 already, should be 26 years lah.

Me : Hello. You just born then know how to eat crab already ah?

*Frankly speaking, I don't think I was removing crab shell from the meat on my own when I was 6 but this thought didn't cross our mind at that point of time... too bad.*

A : *Silence...*

Cousin : Hahaha, sei chun *to denote extreme stupidity in cantonese*

Ahhrmm.

This is a picture of Jacklyn sitting beside a flight of stairs in front of Takashimaya at Orchard Road, Singapore enjoying her Green Tea ice-cream which I totally dislike due to its overly strong Green Tea flavouring bleurgh... I think I did mention this sometime back but don't care will keep on mentioning it until kingdom comes wtf

If you think getting stuck in a massive congestion early in the morning is bad, try getting stuck in a lift instead - happened to me few days back, wondering if I should consider myself lucky or the other way round. I mean, out of 6 lifts and 15 floors, what are the odds of entering one with 2 other individuals with one of them getting off on the 8th floor and the lift stopped functioning there?

That's like 1/(6 x 15 x 3) = 0.003703 chance of experiencing lift failure when taking one, buy 4D also higher chances to win something, I think.

Anyway, what happened exactly was the lift door opened only a little, then closed (repeat a few times), as though something was stopping it from extending fully. Then it closed, jerked a little and all the floor indicators went off. Uh-Oh. I did what every man should do, I panicked, banged repeatedly on the door and screamed at the top of my lungs in super high pitch for help no lah just kidding. Press the request for assistance alarm lah, what else.

It was my first time ever pressing it - and hopefully last - I could barely contain my excitement, lols!

I think I mentioned something along the line of the lift no longer functioning, can't open the doors, stuck at level 8, please help us out, blah-blah-blah. So we waited, and waited, and waited and what seems to be an eternity later but in actual fact just about 12 minutes - the lift suddenly indicated that it has reached level 8. I quickly jammed on the Door Open button and walah, it opened, finally!

Ushered the others out while keeping my fingers firmly on the Door Open button then rushed out myself fuh. Quite scary, to be honest, not knowing and not having control over what would probably happen next. The very next day, that particular lift was closed for maintenance purposes - seems like this is not the first time a breakdown occured. Hhmmm...

Fish Hook.

Currently hooked on to the following items/habits/whatevers:-

1. Green Light by John Legend feat. Andre 3000. You'll be seeing this song title displayed on my messenger's status message for a long, long... long, long time. Hey, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person you come accross that loop current favourite songs infinitely, right?

2. Luminous Arc 2 on NDS Lite. The wife disapproves, strongly.

3. MouseHunt and Metropolis in Facebook. Extremely addictive, once you've started, there's no turning back - much like Pringles but at least those slices of chip are finite. You have been warned. Again, the wife disapproves.

4. Blog hopping. Tons of hidden gems out there in the cyberspace, trust me on this one.

5. Snacking. Especially during office hours. I have a three door tower cabinet beside me that is turning into a granary faster than I'd expected. Other hours include during drive to and fro work, while waiting for dinner, in between gaming, late night snacking. I live dangerously. Mamee is still my all-time favourite snack.

6. Scan through rapidly multiplying strands of white hair and feel old or blame the wife as the cause.

7. ICE-CREAM! RUM & RAISIN! In Luminous Arc 2, there was a cut scene where the characters Pip and Rina mentioned that they have managed to try all the 128 flavours of ice-cream available in Istire. I was slightly... jealous.

8. Reading up on photography. Because there is so much to know.

Yet to do any entries on our wedding or honeymoon, oh noes. But then darling, these pictures are taken by your husband woh, so instead of complaining, you should be proud and share his joy with him, of taking and posting nice photographs, alright :P blek

If by any chance you think these pictures are nice, do remember that its only a few out of the hundreds taken whereby most of them probably cannot make it at all one LOLS. Sorry bro and ah sou!!! *kow tow minta maaf*

3 Years Old.

Hello. As of January 6 year 2009, this blog, Seeds of Life @ jedrantsagain.blogspot.com turns 3. That's quite a feat for someone who has the tendency to always do things half-assedly like trying to lose weight or trying to take up the guitar or try finishing Doom 3 but failed and ended up using cheat but still didn't finish the game and such.

3 years is quite a duration you know, if you have a kid, at 3 years old, he or she would have mastered sufficient vocabulary to deny you of absolute power/rights over him/her and you would have to get hold of him/her by chasing after him/her around the house to get things done your way. Fuh, what a scary thought.

So, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the wife who never denied me the rights to blog, the Siao Gang who never fails to provide me materials to blog, the friends, readers and anonymous individuals who gave interaction to this blog else I guess I am pretty much blogging to my self LOLS, and of course to myself who gave life to this blog HAHAHA so muka tebal tak tau malu one.

Anyway, I'm beginning to wonder how much longer will I be able to keep blogging, its not that I'm no longer interested in churning out entries, just that, it can be quite time consuming - a luxury that I do not possess.

Sometimes, I also wonder, what if one day in the future, Blogspot or ImageShack is not available anymore - what would happen to all the entries posted and photos edited - all the time and effort spent preparing them. Oh, the agony. Perhaps I should start doing a back-up for everything here in Seeds of Life, hhhmmm... But being the uninitiated person that I am, it shall remain only as a thought for now.

In contrary to the usual cakes or desserts or fireworks images to celebrate happy occasions, here's a picture of our staple food with a party hat made of leaf. Happy 3rd Birthday to my blog!

Some not so interesting facts for the year 2008:
Total Pageviews : 23,569
Total Visits : 17,802
Average pageviews/month : 1,964

Sad stories aside, here's to more days and months and years of blogging till the day that I can publish post no more. Must always look forward! Be positive! Cheers! Yam Seng! Kampai!

Post New Year.

The early stages when people were few and food was aplenty. Fortunately, I postponed my plan to purchase Ayamas and a bucket/barrel of KFC.

The middle stages where food was diminishing and the video of the wedding playing in my background, I think. Hik is the Siew Kai Yik King.

The final stages. Praying to the Siao Cake for a good future after the fireworks before cutting and munching away again. That bottle of Chivas survived the 2008-09 transition untouched.

KY & HL.

0. This is not an advertorial - the post is totally irrelevant nor in any relation to KY Jelly nor HL milk.

1. Went shooting for KY & HL punya wedding, morning session, not the actual photographer though, just fooling around.

2. Battery went from fully charged to totally flat before the ceremonies ended, EPIC FAIL.

3. Flash is God sent *hugs & kisses the Speedlite*.

4. 400D + Speedlite is actually quite heavy. Hand and arm will kebas, be prepared.

5. Four hundred plus (400+) is not a lot of pictures but might just enough to kill your battery. Even after heeding Eugene's advice to plan and conserve power.

6. Think like a ninja, act like a ninja, move like a ninja, be like a ninja.

7. Bounce wisely.

8. Wife says do not run to the car, she might just reverse and accidentally hit you. Even if the car is equipped with reverse sensors. Even if its raining. Even if you're wearing bright coloured attire. Even if you pass beside her on the way to the passenger seat. Even if you're huge. Even if other passengers in the car noticed you. Even if you're in her field of vision just a moment ago.

9. Wear clothings that are different in colour with the HengDais or JiMuis, just to be on the safe side.

10. Drink plenty of water, sweats will drip, flow or gush, maybe that's just me.

11. Getting a good angle is difficult when you're constantly getting out of an actual photographer and three actual videographer's way. Make that extremely difficult.

12. I have a few insurance policies.

13. Did I already mention about the tangan kebas?

14. Knowing the agenda or program flow, if any, would be helpful. You want to be at the right place, at the right time, at the right moment. Else, refer to #6.

15. Have fun!

Just one of the pictures, more to come, perhaps or perhaps not.

Short One.

Second day of 2009. Journey to work not smooth. An accident. Not sure what happened though. Did not slow down to look. Was on the fast lane. Honked the bugger in front who did. ******. Empty parking lot. Best.

New Year's Eve was fun. Except for the cleaning. Gathered at her ex-house. The usual bunch. Food a plenty. Fireworks. Musical chairs. Big butts don't always win. Lat-Lat Sushi without the Sushi. Took a while to understand.

Movie for New Year at 1U. Ip Man. Good Stuff. Been doing the Wing Chun stance. At Jacklyn. Annoys her very much. Lunch got discount. Thanks to friend of Junn. Had ice-cream. Then shopping. Lots of people. Very annoyed.

Heading to KY's later. Not the blogger. Buffet dinner. His big day tomorrow. Busy day for me too. Taking pictures in the morning. Visiting friend in the evening. Attending his dinner at night. Fuh.

The End. Thank you.

Happy New Year 2009!

Ah, a fresh new start. Jed would like to take this opportunity to wish every one a Very, Extremely, Superbly, Happy New Year! May you be blessed with loads of joy and happiness, good health, plenty of wealth and fortune, best of luck and ample opportunities in 2009. A new chapter unfolds for you, me and everyone else beginning today...
