Observed: Ninjas.

Referring to those wearing masks in public places, most commonly seen in shopping complexes. It started of with only a handful and as the total deaths reported (locally) increased, there was a huge surge in numbers. Is the risk of infection really minimized by wearing masks (surgical type mainly seen)? Or you're just wearing it because everyone else around you does (kiasu and a bit of kiasi)?

Here's an email I received from a colleague, an excerpt from NST - Letter to Editor on August 7, '09 by Kiang Jau Sang from Malacca. If you have doubts on the truthfulness on the article, simply do a quick search on Google with "H1N1 - Surgical Masks" and find out more for yourself.

The best way of staying out of H1N1 trouble

Recently, I saw photos in newspapers showing people wearing "surgical masks" at shopping malls, schools, mamak stalls and other public areas. I have even noticed people wearing them out in the open with no one around.

Because of this, I would like to explain why the mask may do more harm than good.

The H1N1 virus is not airborne. To be considered an airborne virus, the microorganism would have to survive or remain in the air for long periods of time. The H1N1 virus does not stay airborne.

I have noticed many people wearing masks in crowded places. However, places like airports, shopping malls and schools are full of germs and bacteria. If a small amount of bacteria gets into a hole in the mask, you will provide a breeding ground for the bacteria, which may lead to an illness or infection. The moisture you produce in your mask is perfect for bacteria and viruses, and may be a recipe for disaster.

The way to prevent exposure to H1N1 virus is to avoid physical contact with people who may be sick or infected. Also avoid commonly touched surfaces like escalator railings, poles and public toilet doorknobs.
The H1N1 virus usually spreads when someone touches surfaces with the bacteria and then touches his own nose, eyes or mouth.

Washing your hands frequently is the best defense against exposure.

And yes, the virus may travel from point A to point B in the air. But it will drop, not stay airborne.

Wearing a mask is only good at helping you not to spread your illness to others if you are infected.

Hence, if you're really that concerned on your own health (those wearing masks to avoid being infected) or concerned on other individual's health (those wearing mask to prevent from infecting others with cold/cough/flu), its best to just stay home and avoid crowded places instead. The virus not being lethal to you doesn't mean that it's not lethal to others, be considerate. Last but not least, prevention is always better than cure.

Observed in MidValley: Lunch Time.

Office Ladies (OLs) make my day. Yums...

I mean, uhrm... whatever.

p/s: Yes, I do realize that I have not updated this little space on the Internet for a long, long time. In fact, it took me three tries to log in just now, can you believe it? It's not that I've been busy or something, just couldn't really be bothered to update. Anyway, now that I'm here, you can expect some new back-dated posts.

p/p/s: Must be Not Owning an iPhone Sithdrawal Symptoms (NOiPhoneSS). Was re-poisoned during an outing last Saturday, curses!

Observed at Home.

Jacklyn has just returned home. She proceeded upstairs, saw me in the common area, leaned on the stairway's wall and started talking.

While hugging a stack of folded clothes and handbag still clung on her shoulder. The talk lasted for quite some time.

Self concluded: Case of different priorities.

Observed in Gardens.

The parking lots inside Gardens to be more precise. Its an underground parking lot, hidden away from even the faintest ray daylight. Hence, the brightness seen in the image is caused by electrical lighting. This is a first for me as well.

In case you have yet to realize, that's Jacklyn's ride. Don't as me why, ask her.

MachineGan.

Jacklyn has always been the most talkative person that I knew/came across in my life so far.

Until quite recently...

I have met an individual with the ability to talk almost non-stop throughout the day, during meals, when working (to other individuals or on the phone), during breaks and so on. Slightly annoying if you ask me, especially when you're trying to concentrate. As if the situation's not bad enough, this individual has those slightly pitch-y voice which at times, are even high enough to penetrate the earphones.

Oh, the horror...

I'm in serious consideration shifting away and keeping a radius of at least 10 feet away. I need my peace and quiet to maintain top efficiency. I already have enough of distractions at home, I seriously do not need anymore.

How can someone talk so much in a day? How? Somebody, please tell me! But to be fair, other than being extremely talkative, the individual in general is a good person, judging from the various interactions (some forced) that we had so far. Let's just hope nothing bad turns out of this, because annoyance can easily turn into anger then hatred then murderous intents...

Lacking. Concentration. Must. Tolerate. Must. Win. Urgh...

Some intensive training with Jacklyn might just help.

Observed in WWW.

Seventh of August, year two thousand and nine, at twelve thirty four and fifty six seconds in the afternoon. Supposed to be quite a special date and time because it can be formed into the following:

12:34:56 07.08.09 (adhering to 24 hours time format and UK date format)

About twenty years back, a pretty similar date and time occurred as well but the Internet has yet to become the phenomenon it is today, less penetration hence less the hype. It was the sixth of June, year nineteen eighty nine, at one twenty three and forty five seconds in the morning.

If you live long enough, there will be another one eighty years later.

Carbonated Cordial Water.

Had our lunch at Bistro Delifrance @ MidValley some time back as they were having this promotion of 50% discount on all pastas and they even throw in a free refillable root beer drink. Quite a bargain if you ask me. Had our orders placed and drinks served which tasted kinda weird. Realized why on my refill, it was root beer cordial mixed with carbonated water as illustrated below. Blurgh...

I do apologize for the error in focusing, was dining with my TL, the HOD and 2 other TLs. So, have to maintain behavior a bit.

The pasta was kinda bland and water-ish, portion kinda small as well. But then again, with the price I'm paying, which is almost on par with a meal in the food courts, I really shouldn't be complaining that much. But then again, they should at least maintain some level of quality on the food they serve since its quite a well-known brand/franchise in Malaysia, right?

Service was good though.

Turn It Off Please.

The author of this blog is taking time off from his busy schedule to remind a handful of car drivers in KL to keep their fog lights off when driving at night. Perhaps its just me but I find fog lights to be really glaring from the rear mirror when turned on, to the extend that it causes extreme discomfort to my vision.

Annoying should be the right word in this case.

Anyway, the only purpose of fog lights, when turned on, are to provide illumination during poor visibility conditions due to fog or rain and not to make your ride look more cool or aggressive or sportier and so on. In case you didn't know, which I suspect most of KL drivers don't.

So, kindly be more courteous on the road, you wouldn't want your fog lights to be missing from your ride the next morning, wouldn't you?

The Day That Was Saturday.

Was at Menara Matrade in the afternoon to attend a survey event by Synovate which was supposed to last only 2 hours (slotted for 1230-1430) but ended up stranded there for almost 5 hours, 2 hours plus spent mostly on waiting. Talk about bad time management eh? Was on the verge of snapping when they finally gave me what I waiting for, lucky them.

The journey home was equally bad due to the anti-ISA rally as all traffic was redirected from Jalan Kuching to Lebuhraya Mahameru before Putra Place/The Mall, was stuck there for almost an hour.

Honestly, I don't see the point in setting up all these road blocks. Not only did them blocks TOTALLY FAILED to prevent the rally, it was a COMPLETE NUISANCE to all road users in KL. On Friday morning, I was stuck halfway towards the toll onto the East-West link because Loke Yew was inaccessible, can you imagine that?

Precious time wasted, manpower of law enforcement officers which could definitely be better spent elsewhere wasted, fuel wasted, I really wonder what goes through the brains of whoever that ordered them roadblocks.

Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

Sooner or later, whenever there's an ISA related rally, there'll be one anti-ISA group, one pro-ISA group and another that rally against stupid road blocks group.
