No Point?

With Facebook, Twitter and now, Instagram, I just don't see the point of maintaining a blog anymore. Or perhaps I'm just plain lazy, as usual. Laziness makes a good developer, serious! *ahems*

Unless, I can make something that will pull all my daily updates from the above apps to my blog and compiled as a new blog post, automatically! That would be totally awesome! Even better, if someone else makes it and distributes it for free!

*Googles...*

Update: Oh, found something that's pretty similar to what I had in mind - termed social accelerator where all your social applications are consolidated into a single page. Pretty cool but seems more catered towards businesses embarking on the social media path... Still awesome nevertheless! Check out socxs.

Revival.

The moment of revival is upon me. And I'm just spouting nonsense. Hello World. No, I'm not testing this from a new gadget that comes with blogging features. Like a typical programming sample. I'm just typing whatever that comes to my mind at the moment. Because I am stressed. And yet I am bored. Or numbed from the work. Brain's not functioning properly. Just had a cup of coffee and my head's starting to hurt. Press Enter. Enter Pressed.

Two more months and there goes 2010. Sigh. Let's see how long I can keep on going this time. Lack motivation to do so. Couldn't draw inspiration from others anymore, ended up reading crap most of the time, like mine. Is it dying? Due to the other more convenient methods of delivering what's on our mind? Yes? No? I don't know. Its sad. As sad as reading articles and news regarding related to our government.

That's all for now, need to get back to my pending tasks. Till I write again.

Coffee Machine.

At long last, our very own Coffee Machine - or should it actually be referred to as an automated coffee dispenser? - in the office! Goodbye to days of manual uncertainties and hello to precise automation! Reality kicked in when I realize that with this new arrival, there might be a possibility those 3-in-1 stuff we've been enjoying all these while might be discontinued! Such short lived joy, let's hope that I'm just over-assuming. For now, let me enjoy my double shot of Cappuccino, because I can.

In case you were wondering where you've seen a similar dispenser before, its the same one used in Subway outlets. On a side note, when I showed the wife our newly renovated pantry equipped with cushioned seats,  kitchen island, LCD TV & DVD Player and all that stuff, she was much displeased and retorted that this is how IT department (in general) spends all the hard earned profits raked in by Sales & Marketing. Aawww... don't be jealous :P

Economic Mixed Rice.

Take a wild guess on how much I was charged for the meal above, I took some stir-fried vegetables, pickled vegetables (zhar choy), a piece of fried chicken and braised bean curd with mushrooms and egg. All that for only RM5.50!!! Bloody cheap loh (for KL standard) if I may say so! Usually, with just one meat dish and two vegetable dishes, I already had to fork out RM5.00 averagely - even at this very same stall. I must have looked my very best today!

Please do not assume that I hid the dishes from view because it was the lady manning the stall that scooped the dishes for me. And even when its self service, I never do that because I very much dislike it when the cashier pokes and digs my carefully arranged dishes. Benci!

Forgot to mention, the rice was packed at Makan Place Food Court located in between Mid Valley Mall and Gardens Mall (Lower Ground) - next to Big Apple Donuts. Probably the only place within these 2 malls where you can find inexpensive food but heed my advice, always do take away as quickly as you can or end up smelling like a mobile version of the food court.

Needs.

# A Haircut
And perhaps change to a new hairstyle while I'm at it, one that's totally new and different.

# To Start Running Again
The sprained ankle seems to have healed almost completely. Thought of joining the Adidas KOTR run which had been previously scheduled for 3rd October but nowhere to be found now. The run has been removed from the PACM calendar as well.

# More Money
Loads and loads and loads and loads and loads of them. Tell me who doesn't.

# To Drink Less Coffee
Without realizing it, I've increased my consumption to two cups per weekday, one for breakfast, another dose after lunch. Must have control! Ironically, I'm having one while typing this.

# A Miracle
So I can save and pay off my debts at the same time.

# Anger Management Therapy
I go crazy every single time I hit the roads. Malaysians, friendly? Pffftt! Obviously the individual(s) who made that comment(s) has never driven on our roads before. *Blood Boils* Roar!

Hou Moon Restaurant.

No. 34 & 36, Jalan Hip Hing,
Off Jalan Goh Hock Huat, 41400 Klang.

Business Hours: 0930 - 1530 & 1730 - 2130

One very long drive from Cheras later, we arrived at the restaurant which according to Dad is well known for its fish head dishes - because they are huge, cheap and good (very much in tune with the wife's PLC motto). I wasn't really convinced at first because, come on, who drives all the way to Klang to have FISH head? I mean, when Klang is mentioned, the first thing that crosses one's mind would definitely be Bak Kut Teh!

But I was wrong (and hungry) because the Assam Fish and also the Steamed Fish Head with Minced Ginger was finger licking good. So good that I had to have a second serving of rice, something I've not done for a very long time because the wife would usually shoot me a laser guided glance but she was too busy enjoying her food this time. Yums!

Other than the fishes, the restaurant does offer a variety of dishes that I would not know of because I never had a chance to browse through the menu. But we had Curry Pork, Yin Choy in Superior Soup and Stir Fried Egg Plant - which had some small deep-fried, crunchy stuff (might be shrimps - ha mai) that made it so delectable! Another recommended fish dish (by Dad) would be stir fried chopped fish head in kum heong sauce, didn't order as to not overwhelm ourselves with fish, later got nightmare.

A close up of the huge Steamed Sek Pan Fish Head (I assume its Garoupa) in Minced Ginger. I can just recall that it was cheap, around a hundred plus if I recall correctly, a total bargain! So, all in all, the food was worth the long drive - will definitely head back there again for another round some time soon!

Maxis 3G.

From left to right, this was me trying to access Facebook via iPhone (running iOS4) on Maxis 3G, note the optimum service reception. From left, that was me on my way to the parking lot via Gardens Mall. The mid screen was taken inside the car before departing and the right one was taken upon reaching home. Not sure why but my 3G service has been pretty inconsistent lately. Time to change?

Ups and Downs.

Some time ago, our neighbor notified us that he has started his own restaurant business, specializing in Canto cuisines. The first time I dropped by was on his first week of operation with my In-Laws and business was pretty good, tables were fully occupied, staffs were busy taking orders and attending to customers; it even took a while for our orders to be served.

Had similar experience on the subsequent visits I made and at one point, we even had to shift to a different location because we didn't make any reservations. Business was good for him. Over time, the quality of food had improved tremendously, serving time has been cut short, environment and service is still as efficient, and the price is reasonable. I was and still is a very much satisfied customer.

And yesterday, after a short absence, my parents decided to patron our neighbor's restaurant and made a booking. I was a little taken aback upon reaching, I noticed that the restaurant was relatively quiet, other than us, only three other tables were occupied and by the time we finished, we were the only ones left. And for the first time ever, I saw our neighbor, who is also the chef, outside of the kitchen hanging around the dining area.

Not sure whether if we were early or because of the mega sale or something but it was pretty shocking (and also hard to digest) to experience how different business can be in just a matter of weeks. I hope that business will pick up, back to how it used to be, for him. Will do a proper post on his restaurant soon.

More and More.

Dropped by the construction site to check on the progress again because we received notification from the bank that another disbursement has been released to the developer, the second last one. And this time around, I was pleasantly surprised by how much work has been done, roads are laid, lamination works and backyard fencing had begun, doors and wash basins installed, etc.

It felt like the pieces are finally all coming together and for once, my hope of being able to move in (complete with renovation, furnished and all) before Chinese New Year looks pretty positive! I'm truly excited!

With all good things, there would always be some flaws - the Yin and Yang philosophy, a fire hydrant is located smack in the middle of us and our neighbor. Also, the pavement has been done in such a way that it would be useless to widen the gates as initially planned, sigh.

The current phase of construction has been split into two batches, the first batch is currently awaiting for all the approvals to be done then the owners can start moving in (jealous) while the second batch (which is us) would have to wait indefinitely, which at this time has already been delayed for half a year. Since it was still accessible, we 'intruded' one of the completed houses for a quick tour and was very much pleased with the results.

To be honest, very much pleased is a very toned down description of how I really reacted, go figure. And since its now in batches, I pray that the house can be completed in good condition before year end and that the developer would not be running away.

Putu Mayam.

One of my favorite Indian dishes, best when served with mutton curry, almost heavenly - I have Rames to thank for introducing me to such an awesome combination! Before that, it was grated coconut and the occasional gula melaka because I perceive that's the right way it should be eaten.

Man, just visualizing the tender mutton wrapped with putu mayam drenched in curry makes me salivate and my stomach grumble!

And, the putu mayam vendor on bike has returned!!! Actually, he told me that he has been making his rounds here in the evenings for a while now. Guess I never did bump into him before because I usually return later, traffic was good that particular day. Though not that accurately applicable, but in a way, early birds really do get the worms *laughs*

Yummies! Now if only I'm able to get my hands on some mutton curry...

The Expensive Mistake.

One single wrong click that cost me seven hundred and fifty ringgit. FML.

One of the many reasons I hate doing online purchases, the penalties are so heavy that it's not funny, even the law enforcement is more lenient when it comes to this. There goes my PS Move, sigh.

Shape & Men's Health Night Run 2010.

The one run that was not meant for me. Back in 2009, this was my first run and I fared terribly, finishing almost an hour AFTER the qualifying time (I couldn't walk normally until almost a week later). And this time around, armed with confidence and one healing ankle, I had to retire at the 10 kilometers mark, the pain was just too agonizing.

It was nearby the 2 kilometers mark that I started feeling multiple sharp sensation on my injured ankle, like needles poking it, so, I started walking. Medical volunteers stationed were not really able to help because they were unequipped. A long walk later, my calf muscles started to tense, good in a way that it alleviated the ankle pain and at the same time bad, because the pain was much harder to bear.

Managed to walk plus limp all the way back before finally giving up at 10kms, I think I've drained my willpower completely (mental exhaustion) by then. At that point, I felt so angry and disappointed with myself that I decided to give up running completely, no more marathons for me!

The following day, the more I think about the run, the more frustrated I become and the disappointment ended up as renewed determination to run even more; to finish all my runs ahead of qualifying time! Reminds me how fickle minded I can be at times.

On a different note, this run is also known among us as the goodie bag run, because no other runs in KL even comes close to this level of goodies presented to the participants.

SCII. Epic.

This short and simple blog post has been created to commemorate the launch of StarCraft II, a game of epic proportion ten years in the making, one that is not within my reach though I very much desire it due to the overwhelming cost of completely overhauling my PC. Sigh.

I shall heal my grievance slowly by watching replays and cut scenes from the game as well as wait patiently for the launch of PlayStation Move.

I'm just waiting for the official pricing in Malaysia to be revealed before deciding whether or not to proceed since the plan to purchase said console has already been approved by Jacklyn *grins*

Breakfast Pamper.

Discovery of the Day: Inspiration for blog posts only comes during work hours, there goes productivity.

The occasional splurge on breakfast with Jacklyn at La Bodega. Occasional because 60 plus ringgit can buy us many bowls of chili Pan Mee, enough to make us stay away from it for weeks.

Sigh, can't help but to wonder if I can still afford to be sitting here again to enjoy a nice, warm breakfast once a kid comes along. Afford not only in terms of monetary but also taking care of the kid while trying to eat at the same time, especially if he/she takes after the mother like, totally - the worst case scenario *shudders at the thought*

Either a Butterfly or a Moth.

Had thought of a catchy title but couldn't use it upon realization that I wasn't sure which insect group it belonged to. A quick search on the Internet later, I conclude that its a moth based on the characteristics that its dull in color, it has a thick and fuzzy body and its wings are held flat against body when resting. But still, I might be wrong.

Anyway, other than showing how large the moth is and that my finger tips are somewhat fairer than the rest of my hand, in case you didn't know, it is Chinese belief that the visiting moth, usually uncommonly huge one, black or dull in color, is a physical manifestation of the spirit or soul of a deceased one returning to pay a visit.

Nothing to do with bad luck, misfortunes or curses.

The moth(s) would normally stay (at the same location) for a few days before disappearing. I've been warned since young not to disturb the moth(s) and to just leave them alone (which in this case, I didn't) as a sign of respect. To have a better understanding, I've inquired why they should be left alone but never got any explanation, typical Chinese 'education' of never question and just do what you've been told.

I would assume the warning's probably for kids fearing that they would unknowingly torture then pulverize the moth into pieces. But even when everyone's all grown up?

Seriously, I mean, if I'm dead and took all the trouble to transform into a moth and fly all the way to visit, let's say my children to see how they're doing, they had better serve me awesome roast pork and liquor, invite me into their house and switch to my favorite channel on TV. Else, I'll make sure that they're aware that its me and that I'm bloody pissed!

Yeah, unless there are some type of afterlife rules that prohibits me from doing so.

Alamak!

Of all times, I had to sprain my ankle during badminton last night, it looks pretty swollen now. Sigh. I'm really worried that it might not heal in time for my marathon next Saturday, one that I've been looking forward to.

Also, no more practice runs until then! I should start some mental preparation to accept the fact that I shall fare poorly at yet another run. Shucks!

Snowflake.

My current favorite dessert outlet because I love shaved ice based desserts unconditionally, be it ABC (Air Batu Campur) or Cendol or the ice shavings from 100 Yen shop, you name it, I love them all. I think I'm very much similar to Jacklyn in a way, I always say that she was born in the wrong continent because she loves western food tremendously! And as for me, I love being immersed in coldness. A good example would be how much I enjoy sitting outdoors during the cold breezy night (usually about 16 degrees I think) in Genting Highlands sipping on Frappucino, wearing just t-shirt and quarter pants. Blissful.

It's Funny.

How easily your day can be ruined by others.

Like how your peaceful morning drive to work was ruined by a reckless driver on a modified Saga, you know, those with huge spoilers, noisy mufflers and cracked body kits, who speeds on the emergency lane and then forcefully cuts into your lane, suspecting a police block in front. Had to jam on the brakes because it was slightly downhill and I was accelerating (picking up speed).

Really cannot tahan! I've made a vow to myself, if I ever see these type of drivers involved in an accident, I would stop, get down from my car and give them a heartfelt standing ovation.

Or how your satisfying lunch break was ruined during the lift ride to your office by a group of people, in my case about 7 of them, fresh from their cigarette break and was in a chatty mood. It was the most nauseating 20 seconds I've ever experienced, worst than air pockets during flight.

Equally depressing is when you're unfortunately seated nearby a hyperactive kid, worst if behavior of kid is oblivious to the parents, in the cinema. I've experienced this so many times that I think I'm starting to develop some phobic towards the mere sight or sound of children in the cinema hall. No kidding.

Haikara-Style Cafe & Bakery.

So, I think I've heard about this little Japanese establishment hidden somewhere in Subang that serves out-of-this-world cakes and equally awesome food from the wife for like a gazillion times, but was never brought there, I don't know why. Well, I never tried venturing there alone as the wife stressed time and again that it's really hidden and it won't be easy driving and trying to locate the cafe at the same time.

And last Sunday, my opportunity arrived in the form of Cherrie and Brandon, I finally paid the cafe a visit.

Ice Coffee (Sumi something)

Soup and Salad that comes with a set dish

My Curry Seafood with Rice, Mild. You can actually choose the level of spiciness when ordering, 5 levels in total. Japanese curry will never be the same for me again.

Wife's Sanma something, sorry I am really bad with names of food - its basically grilled fish but be careful because this fish is bone-tiful :P

Charcoal Strawberry cake and Macha (Green Tea) cake, both are yums!

My verdict, this place is even better than I had imagined, good food and excellent service! The owner actually brought the Today's Special menu board to our seats when he noticed us squinting our eyes trying to figure what's written, if this ain't good service, I don't know what is. And he always made sure the dishes are available before taking down our orders, also tried his best to explain each dish to us even with limited vocabularies.

And there's a good variety of food, drinks and desserts available.

Very comfortable and cozy environment as well, great place to catch up with friends or families over a cup of coffee and a piece of cake. And with the limited amount of seats available and ample distance between tables, you can be sure things would not get too crowded or hectic.

With all these plus points, what more could one ask for? The Haikara-Style Cafe & Bakery is located at E-Tiara Service Apartments, GF Jalan SS16/1, Subang Jaya (next to Carrefour). You can visit their Facebook page as well, its updated and contains more information compared to their website.

Inception.

Was incredible, a must watch. So good that when the credits started rolling, I had an urge for a standing ovation but decided against it in the end because none around me seem to be sharing the same sentiment. And I shy. It has been quite some time since I last exited a cinema hall still thinking and pondering over the movie.

Spoilers ahead, although not major, still, please experience the movie yourself before proceeding.

The idea and concept of Inception was excellent, executed in a manner that is too logical to be untrue (well, except some parts, e.g. dreams can be connected via physical bonds) and yet, with enough loopholes in between to let you solve the puzzles the way you want. Isn't that amazing?

The big question in the end would be, was he in or was he out? I've went through quite a few sites offering a huge variety of explanations and understanding of the movie and so far, the best that I've come across is this, shared by Kurt. But I'm still inconclusive.

I think I will have to wait for the DVD to be out, play it on the laptop with my headphones on and analyze the scenes part by part before I shall be satisfied.

Donashi by Big Apple.

Here's the list of all available Donashi(s) from Big Apple. Side tracking, I realize that both Big Apple and J.CO named their product(s) donuts whilst Krispy Kreme named theirs doughnuts. All this while, I had this perception that the correct spelling would be the latter (since its made of dough, not sure where the nut part came from, go figure) while donuts is how its spelled in BM, which I now found out that it doesn't seem to be the case as both are acceptable.

p/s: Funny list of answers on The Plug, found when googling for the difference(s) between doughnuts and donuts

Pasta Zanmai, finally.

Why finally, you wonder? Because since its establishment I don't know when but assume it has been around for quite some time, I have heard of horror stories and equally terrible reviews on the food served hence, I've made it a point never to dine there. Ironically, I've been to Sushi Zanmai plenty of times, usually the one in Gardens and so far, I have yet to experience any unpleasantness/displeasure *touch wood* which I hope to remain so.

Anyway, since I lost terribly in the World Cup 2010 predictions and losers can't be choosers, I was given the 'opportunity' to try out the Pasta Zanmai outlet in MV one stormy afternoon. Scanned through the impressive looking menu and ordered something safe, pasta in curry. Trust me, based on my experiences so far, no dish that I've ordered with Japanese Curry has ever gone wrong before and if you ever had to encounter such misfortune, you should request that the chef commit seppukku right before you.

Big Bowl, Small Serving and just good enough to prevent a possible seppukku, would have been much better (for me) if the calamaris were battered and deep fried, yums

The dish turned out alright, well, I admit that it was much better than expected but felt that the combination doesn't really blend well due to the texture of spaghetti. Side dishes of edamame and pizzas were okay, rather expensive for its serving size and the Heart Mix Fruit Juice was quite refreshing. Service was rather slow though, which was to be expected, according to my colleague.

Well, I don't expect myself to be patronizing this outlet again anytime soon given the variety of choices available in MV as well as Gardens Mall, unless I had to give in to someone's demand unwillingly, yet again.

The Monday Rant.

# I very much expected the roads to be absolutely clear due to the prolonged final but to my ultimate horror, I was stuck in the worst congestion I've experienced in weeks!!!

# And I was feeling really wobbly and light-headed during the drive to work (which I found out later was due to hunger). Most fortunately, I made it there alive.

# And my World Cup Search for Money Glory campaign ended in complete losing streak, full story here. To me, the final was more of dramas, flying yellow cards and Kung Fu kicks rather than a football match.

# And Spain's goal was like, eh, sudah masuk..

# Enough of World Cup, I think my brain is half dead, help!!!

# I had to repeat my order 3 times during breakfast because I kept forgetting what I was ordering, fortunately, my bosses were not around.

# Unable to stand the filth any longer (I was entangled in cobwebs when removing my shoes in the backseat, serious!), I sent my car to Cars for a wash. The attendant tried to aggressively sell me the membership program which I politely declined for 841 times.

# He finally stopped when I gave him my infamous 'stare-of-death'.

# The wash cost RM28.80, although the results were more than satisfactory, it's still bloody expensive. The one that I usually send my car to costs only one-third of this!

# I'm at my fourth cup of coffee already and it doesn't seem to be keeping me up (and sane) anymore, I need stronger stuff! I need... beer!

# And on a totally unrelated note, it seems very unlikely that our annual trip down to Lion City will be happening this time around, need to save up for the year end :)

# On another totally unrelated note, Olivia Ong!!! *melts*

Double Strike!

Purchased this so long ago that I don't remember when, was much attracted to the glass that the package came bundled with at a killer price. Since then, it has been kept away safely in storage and long forgotten until moments ago, was suggested to bring them over to a friend's place before it turned ancient.

The moment I hauled it up, I felt a slight sensation of the package giving way and the next thing I know, bottles came crashing onto the floor. Dang!

The glass and 3 out of 5 bottles survived. Whilst cleaning up the spill, the enticing aroma of beer was pretty irresistible, a statement seconded by Dad. On the other hand, Mum was furious (okay, perhaps just slightly agitated) at the mess I made to her storage room.

Moving on, since I wasn't absolutely sure where the said friend's place was located, I relied on Google Maps totally. Upon closing in on the destination, to my dismay, the path recommended (Jalan Tanjung Bandar Utama) has been restricted from access. Only then I recalled of the closure not too long ago, had to call for directions. Dang!

Fortunately, the good food, Pan Fried Lemon Sole Fish with Lemon Butter Sauce & Pesto Pasta with Sauteed Mushrooms made my day, thanks Danny!

I realize now that I should perhaps name the title Triple Strike because at the end of the day, the beers were miraculously left untouched. Dang!

I realize: McD's Breakfast.

The following was brought to my attention during breakfast at McD's this morning. Kindly take note that all prices stated are not inclusive of taxes and has been double confirmed with its prices stated on the McD's website (this shall serve as a disclaimer as well):
  1. A weekday breakfast special Egg McMuffin with Chicken Roll plus coffee set costs RM 4.50
  2. The breakdown of items on the receipt showed that the coffee is actually more expensive than the muffin, almost doubling it (bloody hell)
  3. The usual Egg McMuffin with Chicken Roll breakfast set costs RM 8.00
  4. And the A La Carte, which I assume to refer only to the muffin, costs RM 4.60
  5. The Hash Brown, at A La Carte price, costs RM 2.75
So, if I were to purchase the breakfast special and then add on a hash brown, that would total up to RM 7.25, which is cheaper than the breakfast set. Or if I just wanted an Egg McMuffin, it would be cheaper to buy the special set then give/sell the coffee away than to purchase it via A La Carte. Kindly take note that this would not be applicable during weekends.

Weird aye?

World Cup 2010.

The road to the World Cup finals has been a truly horrible journey for me, trust me when I say you have not witnessed a losing streak until you see my 'support road map' since Quarter Finals. As for the group matches, I just watch for fun, not that into football anyway.

It started with England (trashed) and Brazil (outwitted) then it was Argentina who I had hope was able to give Germany a beating but instead, suffered a humiliating defeat. Fine, since they were in such a superb form, I wholeheartedly rooted for Germany in the semis, hauled my ass up in the middle of the night to watch that match.

And Spain won. What... The... F...... (honestly, Spain deserved that win, they played an awesome game)

So, for the finals, rather than trusting my logic & instincts, I'm going to root for Netherlands to win the cup! Go Oranje! No words on that predicting octopus please, I still refuse to trust a sea creature with my money sincere support. And I love my takoyakis (with octopus fillings) too much to give them up.

Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Because I could not think of anything else to blog about at the moment, I shall leave you with a photo of the Sydney Harbour Bridge taken during the ferry ride from Parramatta to Circular Quay. Come to think of it, this was the one and only time that I traveled via ferry although the wharf is located a minute away from where I was staying.

Because unlike the train (which BTW takes just about 20 minutes less than the ferry to reach town), only one ferry departs from the wharf on an hourly basis and if you miss the scheduled one (or you couldn't get onboard), all the best as you will have to wait for the next one. Much more to talk about the train services but that's a story for another day.

And cabs are out of the question, too bloody expensive. A trip to town would probably cost you an arm and a leg, perhaps even your liver.

Little by Little.

Standing in the middle of somewhere that is currently nowhere

Headed over to the site once again to have a look at the latest progress of our future home, unlike her, I wasn't really expecting much difference actually after the many rounds of false hopes that were given to us. And true enough, not much had been done since the our last visit. Same old, same old.

Well, on the bright side, at least we have more time to grow our renovation and furniture funds wherever possible which is not happening right now. And on the not so bright side, the excitement of moving out and moving in is dying out faster than a speeding bullet train.

Buyers of the first few rows were in a much better situation, looks ready to be handed over anytime soon, lucky them. Everything looks so pretty on the outside. Attempt to sneak in and have a look at the finished units failed miserably, need to further hone my ninja skills *fades into background*

Our initial plan to move in before Christmas seems pretty distant now even if we receive the keys next month (which is unlikely) since we need to slot in an additional two months, at least, for the renovations to be completed.

If the delay goes on, I think we might just sell it off and hunt for another house to move into. Desa ParkCity is very much to my liking but its way beyond my reach unless I somewhere and somehow strike a pot of gold... *starts digging*

Money In, Money Out.

How to save money like that! Every single month end without fail, its the same old routine of salary debited into account and then salary credited out of account. For as long as I can remember, the figures of my account balance has remained stagnant, such a depressing sight.

I don't even bother keeping track of my transactions anymore (use to do it diligently, with all the excel sheets and stuff), most of it goes to loan repayments and settling the outstanding amounts raked by credit cards, truly the mother of all evils. Due to its convenience, most of the time, I don't even realize how much debt I've accumulated until when the bill arrives.

Studying of the statements is usually accompanied by an expression of disbelief followed by a mild heart attack and usually ends with a combination of high level swears and deadly curses.

Ironically, my Final Year Project in university was a financial planning tool to assist users to better manage their wealth, equipped with loan calculators, savings management tools, investment projection and all those fancy stuff. Now, take a look at situation I am in now, such irony, sigh...

Well, I am truly looking forward to the day when I shall become debt free once again, perhaps when I'm 137 years old, if I am able to live that long.

Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2010.

It is that time of the month again. First of all, here's to hoping I did not send the wrong message across. Just that its the start of a brand new month, another fresh beginning and this attempt to revive this little blog of mine is special too, its mid of 2010! But then again, looking at the past records, I dare not put much hope on this round either.

So, last Sunday, I went for the Standard Chartered KL Marathon which I missed last year due to late registration so this year, die-die also must run. Was almost late for the flag off as well, couldn't find any parking (unaware that DayaBumi wasn't accessible), bad omen. Actually, it was an unwise decision to run considering I just returned from a 4 days 3 nights 'walk-ation' in Siem Reap, Cambodia the day before. But I somehow managed to convince myself into thinking that everything will turn out just fine. Hypnosis?

Go! Go! Go! The number of participants were so overwhelming that it took me around 8 minutes to cross the starting line from flag off, can you believe that!

Turning into KL Sentral

In front of Kuen Cheng Secondary School I think (Jalan Syed Putra)

And soon enough, I realized that it was indeed a really bad decision to run because way before reaching the first water station, I was already walking due to fatigue. To make matters worst, I didn't notice any markers indicating the distance remaining along the way, so, I boosted at all the wrong locations. And in the end, I did not even finish within the qualifying time, which was the ultimate blow of disappointment *SAD*

The weather was good though, the soft, cool breeze that blew occasionally really kept me going. And along the way, I think I stunned some cheerleaders by expressing my gratitude a little too loudly unknowingly (due to my play list) or perhaps it was something else, hhmmm... Well, at least I managed to finish (just wanted to console myself, let me be), hope that I will have a better run (and timing) for the upcoming Siemens and Men's Health Night Run, both this month *Makes War Cry*

At the finish line :)

I retaliate!

Attention Jacklyn,

I hereby declare that I will no longer adhere to the steepening restriction on coffee consumption that you have imposed upon me, even when I have already reduced the amount tremendously. In retaliation, I shall henceforth consume coffee wherever and whenever I feel like it which figuratively translates to an average of 2 cups per day and no less than that. This decision is firm and final, appeals will not be considered.

And just to be fair, because I believe in taking and giving, I shall compromise by trying to refrain myself from coffee during the weekends and at the same time, reduce my monthly intake of carbonated and soft drinks to minimal.

Thanks and Regards,
Jed

Langit Biru.

How I've missed the clear blue skies on a bright sunny day, the chilling wind that send you shivers during early mornings and late evenings; and most memorable of all, the night of May 6 when I happened to look up to the sky and witnessed one of the most beautiful sights in my life (thus far). Dark but clear skies covered in blankets of simmering stars of various sizes and intensity - most regrettably, I did not have my camera with me (not a habit to bring it along during weekdays, the notebook is already heavy enough). How I wish I could immerse myself at such sight once again and spend the night away gazing at such spectacle...

Malaysian Maverick.

Was browsing aimlessly in Borders for a while, waiting for Prince of Persia to start (pretty decent movie which reminded me of Next back in 2007), when the various titles on our political figures, past to present, caught my attention - it's in the Malaysian History section, in case you wanted to know. Scanning through the titles one after another, with his name in sight, I was immediately reminded of the book on Tun Mahathir which was initially banned in Malaysia but was finally lifted sometime back.

With a bit of Google-ing, I managed to get hold of the title and started looking but to no avail - a quick search on the PC terminal showed that the book is available (and really pricey too) and is indeed located in the Malaysian History section! Again, no matter how detailed I searched, the result was not fruitful. Undeterred, I located one of the staffs and inquired on the whereabouts of said book.

The staff shot me a puzzled expression (one that's kinda like questioning my intention of getting it) before informing me that the book would only available upon request at the cashier counter. And indeed the said book was available and displayed in a cabinet behind the cashier counter which got me wondering why. Was it done deliberately to minimize sales numbers or to prevent theft (since its pretty expensive) or its not suitable for general read especially the younger generation?

Anyway, it was not until after the movie (3 hours later) that I finally made the purchase - initially clouded by being afraid it was impulsive, just being plain stingy and because all my reads so far being fictions and programming books. With book in hand, I wonder if my perception on Tun Mahathir (currently pretty positive) will change upon finishing, exciting nights ahead!

I think.

I have been missing long enough. There were one too many times between then and now that tried to come up with something but nothing lasted more than a single sentence and at times, not even beyond ten words. Most of the initiatives ended up with me staring blankly on the screen for a few minutes then gave up and watched videos on Facebook instead.

A lot has happened since March, moved around a little bit for work, made some drastic life changing decisions (which I hope is for the better), commitments, accumulated enough debt to buy myself an island and so on. All shall reveal gradually when the time is right.

I do hope that I'll be able to maintain some consistency in this blog onwards, I've said it once too many times and failed equivalent times, which is really, really bad. I should be ashamed but my cheek's just a little too thick to feel it.

Rames's Birthday.

In words because I'm beginning to feel hassled lugging the camera around, which is a really, really bad sign. Perhaps a new lens would result a shift in my mindset *cough* birthday *cough* April *cough*cough*

# Gardens at Curve, pretty decent place but disliked the fact that part of the outdoor dining area was a walkway connecting sidewalks to the mid-sections

# Hot and humid makes an angry Jed

# Wife mentioned that it would be a pretty good place for wedding photography

# Food were just so-so, had the fried breaded chicken cutlet something (note - large portion), wished they would replace the fried with wedges instead

# Lamb shank seems to be pretty awesome though

# Eugene's gear felt like a bowling ball with the number 14

# Green Beer, yums. The chilling sensation made me gulp instead of sip, hence, feeling drunk after one pint. Also realize that I'm really quiet during the drunk transition

# Menara Batu Kawan (Friend Stone Tower) LOLS

Nasi Bojari.

At Sakura, Jalan Imbi. First dining experience there, all thanks to the discovery of a forgotten RM50 cash voucher that's gonna due soon. A slightly different version compared to the ones in Madam Kwan and Grandmama's (supposedly a spin off), drumstick was chopped, a stronger flavored 'square' rice with curry and sambal prawns that are much, much, much, much spicier. Same price, similar servings and even the free cendol promotion is practiced here.

My verdict: Madam Kwan's version is my preferred choice not only because its less spicy, I prefer my drumstick whole (maintains the heat). But the determining factor is the rice which I find to have milder fragrance and better texture, also flavored just right, for me at least.

Either.

This could have been taken either in the morning, when the sun was rising above the horizon or in the evening, when the sun was setting beyond the horizon. I guess it totally depends on how one sees it, much like the half cup of water scenario, some see it as half full (optimistic, supposedly) while others see it as half empty (pessimistic, supposedly as well). So, what say you, sunrise or sunset?

p/s: Yeah, I know that I can easily check on the date and time but I couldn't be bothered to re-transfer the images and the wife is busy Bejeweled-ing on the iPhone.

Let there be light.

Taken when heading out for dinner in the late evening, it kinda reminded me of the scenery at the peak of Mount Kinabalu and I had a sudden strong urge to hike it again. It felt so calm and peaceful (except for the occasional shrieks of laughter and yells of joy) at the top, for a moment, all the worries and troubles (also fatigue and tiredness) seemed to have vanished. Who's with me?

The Converted.

After much consideration, the wife settled for a Berry instead of an Apple. The decisive factor was none other than deals offered by DiGi at their BB roadshow at Mid Valley recently. Seriously, a Bold 2 for RM1299 by signing up with 2 years unlimited data plan (at RM58 per month) is dirt cheap I tell you! Now I'm anxiously waiting for their upcoming iPhone deals and hope it comes with rebate for trading in your 3GS *fingers and toes crossed*

Update: After messing around with the Bold 2 for 2 hours plus, it got kinda... boring? To be fair, I shall devote more time to it before jumping to any conclusions.

Sang Har Meen.

And the best thing is, its home-made, guess most would have been able to tell judging by the quantity of prawns in this serving. Fresh succulent prawns coupled with spongy instant noodles and chopped parsley in a broth that tingles with sweetness, its awesome beyond words. Prepared by Dad who seldom steps into the kitchen but once he does, one can surely expect something extravagant. He used to prepare awesome American breakfast for us on Sunday mornings during my school days, sunny side ups, sausages, ham and toasts. Ah, back in the good old days, when management of shopping complexes does not require its tenants to be open for business 7 days a week and the only worry that the word cholesterol cause me would be how the hell to spell it. Sigh, how times have passed by so cruelly...

Poon Choi.

At some Chinese Restaurant with a name so typically common that I totally fail to recall it now. All I can remember is peeking at the restaurant's signboard under the scorching heat and let out an Ohhh... It was my first time (having Poon Choi) and probably my last time as well, for a few days following this meal, the plain sight of meat gave me the shudders. More information of the dish in Wikipedia.

The beginning, when all looks good and everyone was excited. Most appetizing, can't wait to dig in.

Halfway there. Getting sick of meat and started looking for greens. The bottom layer was slightly revealed.

The end. Even with 3 individuals with the appetite of giants seated at our table, this was the best we could do. The final layer which consisted mainly of radish and braised pork knuckles (fatty food alert) was just too much (and jelak) to handle.

Me.

A picture of me, just because my blog lacks photos of myself, big time. Looking at it, I am reminded of someone saying I always appear funny/weird in photos which proves to be a fairly accurate statement. I'll tell you why - I feel uncomfortable in front of the camera. Serious. The blurred figures in the background is not due to your failing sight, it was done on purpose to protect the identity of my colleagues as well as myself (I'm still under the impression that none of them are aware of the existence of this blog and I prefer it to stay this way). Oh, this was before my glasses were crushed beyond repair.

Moon.

The initial thought upon reaching home was to grab the camera and have a go at lightnings due to its abundance. Chickened out in the end as I was much too intimidated by the blinding flashes of lightnings and deafening cracklings of thunders which seemed to grow stronger by the seconds. So immense that it feels as though the world was coming to an end, like in the movies. Settled for the moon instead.

Scandal.

You read it first here at this blog, Mr.A and Mr.E caught in a never been seen before intimate moment in public. As the Chinese saying goes, paper will never be able to wrap a fire. Images taken during Jacklyn and Eugene punya double birthday celebration, November 2009 at La Casa Desa Park City.

Disclaimer: There are facts and there are fictions, you should be able to tell.

1U4ME.

After an absence of N months, we made a trip to One Utama on a fateful Sunday afternoon. Made a mistake by using Jalan Damansara which was a nightmare due to roadworks at LDP. Also, for the first time ever, I had to park at the Dataran due to restricted entry into the mall and walked all the way towards there under the scorching sun. Sheesh!

There were probably enough people inside One Utama that day to fill up Stadium Bukit Jalil, twice. It was, how should I put it... intimidating? Managed to catch the Kung Fu performance during our trip there, which was pretty awesome, especially when the performers showcased moves with weapons!

Paws-perity cats everywhere in One Utama. Fortunately, the paws were not made to wave like the usual frontward-backward motion else, many Chinese would definitely avoid the mall.

The Bottleneck.

A situation where a continuous stream of source is of such a great volume that the process is unable to cater them all at once, and without any method to increase the processing rate due to lack of resources, thus, resulting a bottleneck at the output/destination.

A situation which best describes my current workload which I sometimes have to continue from home due to tight deadlines (you know, higher-ups, they always need stuff completed yesterday).

A situation which I foresee will be ongoing at least until mid of 2010, judging from the current trend although I hope that I'm totally wrong *fingers crossed*. Right now, currently confirmed with varying deadlines and on-hand, I have proposals, user acceptance tests, development and programming modules, patches and updates to schedule, project planning and not forgetting, tonnes of documents to prepare and review. Managed to clear my mailbox just now, most fortunately, just that its currently filled with dozens of red flags. Sigh.

Well, must learn to be more positive. So, looking from the bright side, at least I would be thoroughly occupied during work hours rather than counting down the minutes to head home. And job security is at an all time high unless I screw up big time *shudders*

Chop. Oink. Chop. Oink.

Here's a short clip of Mr.Hikaru and Mr.Rames slaughtering a piglet with plates at El Cerdo for the former's birthday celebrations. Pretty dark but you'll figure - violence and gore ahead, you have been warned. A little word of advice for those planning to try the roasted piglet, the scent and taste can be quite overwhelming for some, as it did for most of us present that night, non-pork-lovers should definitely opt out. As for me, I  had an awesome feast that night oh-nomnom-noms!

Swim. Swim. Swim.

I've finally taken up swimming lessons, well, more like being forced to since I jokingly agreed to join the wife (for lessons) and the next thing I know, there I was standing at the edge of the pool on a Sunday morning three weeks back, scared shitless. Must have been her evil scheme all along.

I really fear/loathe water related activities - swimming, snorkeling, speedboats, jet-skis, banana boats, etc. Almost drowned once during snorkeling due to panic, thank the higher beings for life jackets. The guide swam me far out and all of a sudden, my snorkel started to masuk air, ended up with gallons of seawater and sore eyes when I finally got back to shore. Sigh.

Anyway, classes have been good so far, the instructor's quite strict - he ensures that you complete a particular lesson before proceeding. But up until now, I'm still at the stage where I'm trying hard to conquer my fear of drowning, sigh again. Well, I just hope that I wouldn't break the instructor's record on the number of classes required to learn a style (currently at 6) *fingers crossed*. To Infinity ... and Beyond [Buzz Lightyear]!
