+ I think I need to change my handphone as well; the problem, and its becoming more and more frequent, is that whenever a call comes in, it'll ring twice then shut itself off like, automated call divert. I wonder if its the battery, or the phone itself...
Don't pray pray. Its a porridge centre man, not stall. The cashier is even equipped with touch screen monitors, got their own uniform summore. I also want to sell porridge.
Still in Chinatown, E brought me to this particular stall, Tiong Shian Porridge Centre, should be quite famous judging by the amount of people 'hunting' for seats. Kinda lame, I know, but that's how you find good food when you're foreign, right? Then again, from E's past experience, it was good stuff. Other than porridge (pork, fish, shredded chicken, peanuts, just to name a few), they have side dishes like claypot frogs, claypot fishes, claypot meehoons, vegetables, fried pig intestines, and much more. Porridges ranges around SGD 3-4 while side dishes starts from SGD1.5 (tofu mah).
We ordered Claypot Kung Pao frogs, braised tofu, Yue Sang (raw fish, not the CNY one). He took some unknown porridge, while I took the pork one.
My porridge, served with spring onions and deep-fried sliced onions (don't recall its actual name).
On the porridge itself, I have to say that its one of the biggest serving I had so far, for the same price. It was really smooth, not too thick nor waterish (I wonder if they soaked the rice in water overnight, which is believed when cooked into porridge, will have a smooth texture) and the flavouring was good, even without the presence of black pepper and sesame oil. One thing that really stand out (or maybe its just me) is that, even till the last bit, the porridge was still quite warm whereby normally, it would have cool-ed down to normal room temperature. All in all, its super sedaps.
The plate of Yue Sang, there is really a lot in there, its a large serving.
The slices of raw fish. I know it looks kinda gross, but its amazing stuff, to eat lah.
Claypot Kung Pao Frogs (Tin Kai to be exact). When it arrived, the aroma was extremely tantalizing that it makes you drool/salivate.
Yum! Look at the size of it!! All the meat!!!
Ever since I had these Yue Sang at some chicken rice stall previously, I've been craving for some. E ordered a large serving (without me knowing), even though he doesn't really fancy fish, apa-lagi raw fish! I know I suka lah, but not to the extend of clearing off everything!!! Anyway, served with lime juice and deep-fried sliced onions, soft and spongy texture, its heavenly. And the Claypot Kung Pao Tin Kais (frogs, literally), the sauce is DAMN GOOD!!! Blends really well the the porridge, I mean, you can just order plain porridge, mix it with the Kung Pao sauce and eat away. The Tin Kai meat wasn't really able to fully absorb the flavour, causing it to be a little bland, but still fresh and chewy (couldn't think of the word). The sauce, OMG, the sauce... *desire has a new flavour*
And finally, the tofu. Sorry loh, but don't really like, the sauce tasted weird. I actually ate it with the Kung Pao sauce with increased its yumminess by 200! The chilli was really spicy.
The bill came up to abround SGD 23 for 2 persons, inclusive of drinks, not really expensive I would say. So, if you're in Singapore, and in Chinatown, do give this Centre a try and I know Geylang also have good porridge but this one nearer to me mah. Its a corner lot, beside the main road, opposite Pearl's Centre. Just so you know, sitting inside the stall or outside on the walkway will still cause you to sweat profusely, because its hot, and you're having porridge, what do you expect. No air conditioning, minimal ventilation, so dress casually and pray it doesn't rain halfway through. Okay, I just made myself really hungry.

I used to think that 'thin kai' is a small kind of chicken, which explains the small thigh la. Then one fine day I followed my mum to the market and saw this uncle killing frogs.
I asked my mum, "Eh mummy, why he kill those frogs? Can eat one meh?"
Then she said, "Yesterday you also eat what."
And I went, "That one not chicken mehhhhhh????"
Sighs, so stupid la. Haha. And I didn't dare eat it for more than 2 years. LOL.

[eelaine] You suffer from the same phobia as the girlfriend. She said it felt as though the tin kai still jumping in her throat when eating it, hahahaha. Anyway, I have to say that the way they slay it, quite cruel leh. Beheaded, deskinned, still jumping weh...
