We flagged for a cab. Upon boarding, E stated our destination, ViVoCity. The driver mumbled something in return, but I couldn't catch it and since E replied in agreement, I didn't bother to make him repeat. A minute or two into the journey, I noticed that we're on an unfamiliar route, which I mentioned to E. However, we came to a conclusion it might just be an alternative, cabbie knows best. Then the driver stopped and right at that moment, realization hit, miscommunication.
We informed the driver about the mistake, he just laughed, stating that he couldn't hear E clearly at that time, so he stated CableCity for reassurance, and E confirmed. E thought the cabbie said ViVoCity. We had a good laugh before continuing to the actual destination. Upon reaching, the fare came up to 7SGD; we paid. Unexpectedly, the driver only charged us 5SGD, stating that he wouldn't like to include the detour charges but we insisted, since it was indeed us who caused the error. This went on for a while before finally giving in, and I felt quite bad after that.
Just out of curiosity, if you where in a similar situation, would it have been different from my case?
Extra :: During my secondary days, I once took a cab (with a friend) from school to Leisure Mall where the cabbie got confused and thought I stated The Mall (near PWTC that one). We sensed something wrong when he turned into the city area instead of Cheras, hence we voiced our concern. Much later, in front of LM, the fare came up to a whooping RM 18+, but then the cabbie only charged us RM 10. We were thankful.
