Sakura @ SSC.

Get to know the locals and prepare yourself for an incredible feast! That'll be my new motto the next time I'm in Singapore. What happened was, one of E's pal recommended a Japanese Buffet restaurant, located inside Singapore's Science Centre (SSC), tha main attraction being its range of desserts. Armed with nothing but an empty stomach, we braved into an unknown territory in search of good food! Our mission got delayed initially, due to the distractions of exhibits in the Science Centre, felt like kids all over again. shame. Deep in the omnitheater, we finally set foot on our destination, a small step for mankind, a giant stomach to be filled for me.

Sakura. The calm before the storm strikes.

We got an early scare because the employee seemed startled upon knowing we didn't make any reservations, then she went through the list like a dozen times before finally confirming our seats. sweat. Let the feasting begin and it was surprising to find some Thai dishes available as well, though minimal. Merely half an hour later, the place was packed beyond comprehension, there were people everywhere and it got really, really noisy. Fortunately, we're seated along the corners, somewhat shielded from an all-round noise assault. Similar to Jogoya I think, they provide mini-clips to be used for orders from the Teppanyaki section, which serves chicken, beef, mutton, lamb, salmon, dory, squid and octopus.

Tempura prawns. Scallops. Mussels topped with cheese-mayo. Sedaps.

Brocolli & mushrooms. Abalone slices. Tuna sashimi. Sushi. Various cakes & desserts. Shark's fin soup (quite good). Herbal soup with chicken (alternatively, can order tom yam).

Seasoned seaweed. Minced chicken salad. Raw baby octopus. Chuka Idako (seasoned baby octopus, I likeeeee). Various desserts that you would die for.

In the image above, bottom left, you see the purplish ball with an oranged coloured base, that's the one to die for. On the outer layer, is a thin layer of something similar to mochii, and on the inside, a layer of jelly, then another layer of cake. When you bite, it feels as though your teeth is biting through different layers of textures, amazing stuff. These things, only last a minute on the shelf, then its gone. Same with the durian puffs. Soft bread like layer wrapping chilled durian paste. Heavenly, unless you hate durians, then you can go for the vanilla puffs. Or the cakes. Or the tarts. Or the jellys. But you have to be quick & vicious, because the dessert section is always way too crowded.

Grilled squid with teriyaki sauce which is so-so only.

Steamed prawns. Scallops. Scallops in some weird sourish sauce. Pineapple fried rice. Green curry chicken. LaLas. Grilled unagi. Grilled octopus in teriyaki sauce.

OMG! Grilled Salmon. My favourite dish from this buffet because the taste and texture is totally to my liking. Even E who doesn't fancy fish have to admit its sedap. The grilled dory is quite good as well.

The moment I set eyes on the ice-cream section, I know this has to be the best buffet restaurant evah because... they serve rum and raisins flavored ice-cream omg! my favourite! totally ownz! Peppermint chocolate chip is second best.

Overall, it was an absolutely satisfying dinner (minus the noise) mainly because their variety consisted a lot of choices that is to my liking. I didn't really stuff myself silly like I mentioned previously, its not a good practise and I would not like to feel the wrath of the girlfriend. Last but not least, the cost, only 26 SGD/person, which is like totally a bargain (the other Japanese buffet that I had set me 40 SGD back weh). I will definitely be back here, you can count on that.
