oh, the a.g.o.n.y.

Let me see. I have been in SG for the last couple of weeks, and I think it is quite appropriate for me to mention this. I've actually given it a lot of thought since a while ago, but (there's always a but) the timing was yet suitable for me to reveal it. After countless times of heading the wrong direction, talking to the wrong people and numerous chasing around, I finally got the answer. How should I put it in a nice way...

OMiGosh... *curses everything around* Yesterday I posted something, but its not there; Aaarrrggghhh!!! Have to re-type everything again! I hate to re-type!!! Uuurrrggghhh... Train-of-thought gone... *swears on everything possible*

* 15 minutes later *

First and foremost, I, the proud owner of jedrantsagain would like to extend the highest and upmost gratitude to I.X. of Infectioner Xtreme for such level of dedication and admiration for I, an unknown humble being roaming these vast lands. Not only I was linked at the top position in his Extreme Bloggers list, he now dedicates an entire entry for me. You shall forever be remembered until you are forgotten. And indeed, because of his selfless act in honoring moi, I may never again be able to find the appetite to consume KFC or McD anymore...
So, I.X., in return, I dedicate these to you...
"Thou shalt never hath a lady for companion as long as thou shalt be consuming fast food; mayth the Higher Beings hath pity on thee"
* Laughs in the most evil manner while still spraying water on I.X. who is still bound to a tree, make that a durian tree *

Of Bad Comments
Nah, its not referring to ya'll, who's actually reading this. It's for those ding-a-dongs who posted those advert-like comments in my entries, luring innocent victims into some gambling sites which will most probably cheat all your money, infest your machine with worms and spy-wares, and messing up your surfing by millions of pop-ups for free stuff, porn, other gmabling sites..yadah, yadah...

But, not to blame them totally for everything as part of the incident will be of my fault for not setting up the comments moderation option; hence, from this day onwards, Jed shall no longer tolerate with such abuse *initiates the comment moderation*. I curse thee who place the adverts on my comments to be forever spammed with junk mails on their inboxes, and that their letter boxes shall be forever filled with trash and junk fliers *mumbles some elvish chants*. If you had been a victim of these abuse, chant with me; else if you are generous and decided to be forgiving, just give a hope to me that my chant works...

Of SG Cabbies
Previously, I did mention that late night OTs (without OT pay, mind you) has been preventing me from leading a normal life, which includes blogging as part of the routine. The last train would be either @ 11.15 or 11.30pm, as mentioned to me by my colleague who does not take any trains; and the late nights usually range to somewhere past midnight. Cabbies in SG includes an additional 50% surcharge on the total fare, inclusive of the pick-up fare of $2.40, for midnight rides *jen, hear that or not? Don't get stoned in Zouk!!!*

So, the other day, I hailed one @ 1.30am, got in and began my journey home. Jolly and chatty Uncle, though its wee hour in the morning. We talked, we talked, we laughed about and then I put on my safety belt, and he laughed summore. Why? Because the cabby dude was driving @ an average of 120km/h! I mean that's super fast dude, I was home in a mere 11 minutes, for a 13.8km journey!!! Mind me to say that we were not travelling on Highways... SG Cabbies can totally OWN MY (as in Malaysia, not my/mine, would be good to be owning them though... ah, riches, come to papa!) Cabbies anytime, anywhere! But the cost burnt a hole in my wallet... *sobz*

Of Chinatown
Last Sunday, like so long ago, I was headed out for dinner as usual. Per norm, I would normally hunt around the Net to find someplace interesting to get food, but that particular day, I was just too darn lazy. So, I headed out, without any particular destination, and will stop @ anyplace with food for dinner. At the entrance to Outram Park, I was feeling a little adventurous and decided to venture into the unknown world beyond the station. I bought some bread to make bread crumb trails so that if I ever got lost, I could always backtrack to where I began, back to the familiar world. So, I walked ...

... and I walked ...

... walked summore ...

... hey, this is SG, walking far is normal ...

... breadcrumb trails, checked ...

... hhhhmmm ...

... Don Cha wish your boyfriend could walk like me ...

... I can go the distance (only with an MP3 player in hand) ...

Further ahead, I... I .. .I ... I reach ... Chinatown!!! OhMiGosh, I knew that it was a station away through the NorthEast Line, but I never though it was within walking distance *OK, I know I'm a bit jakun, but I'm foreign leh...* The sad thing is, since my objective was heading out for a quick bite, I never brought my camera along, bad move. Erm, in 1 word, Chinatown in darn Chinese! It makes me feel like home, because a lot of people were speaking in cantonese, OK!OK! mostly aunties and ahpaks... There were loads of old-school Chinese architecture shophouses around, with quite a number of complexes too, which some are pretty old (those that upon entering, gives you the "waliao, old school man" kind of feel.

I headed till Furama building (which is like after so much more walking), to which I spied with my own eyes, nothing much ahead; thus I headed back. There was one huge ass pedestrian crossing with gardens and pondoks, leading to a street quite similar to our very own Chee Cheong Kai (Petaling Street). Throngs of vendors but please be reminded that are no Adeedas nor Leeboks here (harlo, this is SG lar...). And I did dicover 2 other Jia Xiangs there, which were not that far apart, and I don't know why there were 2 of them... Oh, about what I ate, some special fried rice in some kopitiam which tastes ok...

On my way back, of all greats and marvels in Chinatown, I just have to stumble upon this. Nope, I did not patronize it because I neither fancy to watch it on big-ass screen in public nor watching it with other unknown strangers... Since I ventured too far off course, I kind of forgotten my way back, but fear not, I still have my trail of breadcrumbs as my guide. But lo and behold, they're gone!!! Must be the wind, or the birds, or maybe the auntie sweeping the floor cursing at me who left those breadcrumbs lying around... It took me an additional hour to find my way home, freaking tiring...

That's all the updates I have currently. Yah, btw, SmashpOp's pimping results are out and as predicted, I did not win anything... Congrats to all winners!!! Maybe I'll just 'ugut' smash for some banners... I will be missing another of my cousin's wedding tonight, anyhow, my heartiest congrats to them!!! Shucks, gotta head to office later, there goes my weekend... *sobz*. And I just heard a loud explosion earlier and now I'm smelling Shitake Mushrooms in the air, hhhmmm... Roasted Shitakes? Yummy...

Oh, if you believed (even slightly) about the breadcrumb thingy... May the Higher Being have more mercy on you...

of Coke, World Cup and STOMP...

Can Surprise...
Yesterday night, upon returning from a lil' dinner cum grocery shopping (gotta stock up on food, a man's gotta eat ya know), I headed to the fridge to store some cold meat and fruits (and I eat healthy!). People living here sure enjoy storing surprises...

In the freezer, was a can of Exploded Coke... bits of icy Coke splattered all over (somehow reminded me of CSI). Anyhow, I myself have stored carbonated drinks in freezas before and nothing like this happened before. It must have been in there for a long, long, long ... x33850227597, long time... Curious as I have always been, I Googled for an answer, after cleaning up the mess of course. Since I feel generous, I decided to share my findings... (cheh wah!):

"Water, has an unusual characteristic whereby in its liquid form, its density is higher compared to when it is in solid form (ice). That is why ice floats in water. Therefore, when the Coke (liquid form) in the can was placed in the freezer, it freezes, thus becoming less dense (and expands). When the container can no longer contain the increased volume, it goes KaBoom!!! Pau Char!"
Thanks to the people from answerbag.com

There ya go, be reminded that this behaviour applies to all form of liquid in containers placed into freezers. The amount of time required for the "explosion" to occur will be proportional to the size of the container vs. the amount of liquid. Google for the formula yourself. Maybe in the near future, instead of grenades, armies can used frozen Coke in wars :: adds an element of surprise... hahaha! Anyone wondering what will happen if you place them in microwaves? Do tell me if you have an answer... *Kids, dun try this at home*

World Cup!
Not everyone follow the World Cup; me for instance, appreciates sleeping more than watching individuals chasing balls. Yah, yah ... yada, yada ... I know that it comes only once every 4 years, so? However, it seems like a lot do take the effort to stay up till wee hours of the morning to catch their favourite team take on and demolish their oppositions! Them, I respect, not their idiocy but their passion!

Ok, here comes the dreaded part, anywhere you go with anybody, everyone seems to be talking bout the game. Be it in the office, your favourite mamak (with your favourite gang), pubs, bars and so on ..... In these situations, you either join them or be shunned by them. But to join them, you will require some information about the matches, else it'll be much more like a chicken talking to a duck... Here are some of Jed's survival tips for the season ::

1. Keep track of the results, if possible, the goal scorers... (know the names = know the games)...
2. Watch the news, the highlights of the game will be repeated (which are superb because it shows how the goals are scored, and the near-misses :: the topics of discussion)...
3. Memorize some common terms used in soccer :: off-side, penalty, midfield, tackle, dribble, header, foul and so on...
4. Gather information from enthusiasts, begin conversation with something like "Hey, did you watch the match last night, between XXX and YYY?" By saying it in an excited manner, it gives an impression that you were watching... and let the lad talk all he wants; he might even be better than the commentator of the match...
5. Google for information...

If you're a great story teller, be creative and descriptive, its your chance to shine!!! Or you can always force your siblings to watch and tell you of the higlights *not recommended*. Further tips are always welcomed!!!

STOMP!
Nopez, its not another play featuring individuals banging stuff running around the stage. STOMP stands for Straits Times Online Mobile Print, an interactive portal project by the Straits Times of Singapore. STOMP was published in yesterday's papers, and I'm talking bout it because a particular section caught my attention ::

WTF? Stains? Hey, don't expect me to find out what those things are...

It seems that STOMP has a particular section where some infamous individuals will be blogging once a week (Mondays), and will be interacting with reader every Wednesday... XiaXue, Dawn, May and Choy (of MTV, Malaysian leh... kasi support ler), some journalists and a Kuey Teow Man will the the brains behinds the blogs...

Dawn Yang, quite a famous face in SG... lots of contreversy behind the face too...

May and Choy, models cum VJs for MTV... watch TV for the SunSilk Colour Lock Ad... Malaysian born babes, kasi support, kasi support!!!

Wendy or more commonly known as XiaXue, the KL dissing, Big O loving raving teenage blogger... eh, everyone also know ler... no need introduction lar...

I wanted to introduce the anonymous Kuey Teow Man, but then I could not find his picture and was too lazy to draw one...

health s.c.r.e.e.n.i.n.g.

Did a health screening test @ the company I am working in yesterday for FREE (I lurve this word). The screening was conducted by NKF (I think its the organization had that money scandal trial going on). The process were damn fast and damn efficient, total respect! Anyway, the results returned not in favour of me...

1. I have 14.1% extra body fat amassed in my body!
2. I am about 10kg above my ideal weight!
3. Luckily my sugar level and acid level are in top notch
4. Cholestrol level, manageable...
5. I belong to the prehypertension category! woot! Should tell this to the company to give me less work!

So, overall, I guess I failed the screening (*please be informed that there is actually no pass/fail condition for the screening, as opposed to you thinking that there is a large "FAIL" sign marked on my test results*). I was advised to exercise more often, consume more fiber and plants, cut down on high protein, high cholestrol food, reduce sugar (*no problem, since Malaysia is lacking of sugar anyway*) and salt intake... and on and on and on...

Putting that aside, the screening was conducted by personnels from the NKF organization; where close to 80% of the 'screeners' seems to be Mandarin speaking Chinese and 99% of my colleagues are Indians (most are from India)... They seem happy seeing me and began conversing in Mandarin with me. Initially, I can still understand and reply as it was normal words and sentences being used (yeapz, I am not that banana kay?) but later on, when it comes to the screnning process and results, I have no idea what their talking about and resolved to "Wo bu ming bai ni shuo shen mer, ke yi yung ying wen mah?" :: translation: "I don't understand what you're saying, could you please use English?" *Banana mode kicks in...*

I don't know whether it applied to everyone or was it just me, but their English was so d**m, bloody, difficult to catch... It is indeed English, spoken in a very fast manner, with pure Mandarin slang attached to it. Therefore, it has all the up tones, and down tones with the toungue sticking to the roof of your mouth. Now ladies and gentlemen, try that to your friends; you're bound to get some good ol' slapping from them.

It was not until the final station, which sort of acts like "The summarizer" of the screening, manned by an Indian lady, that I was able to understand truly my condition. Thank heavens...

*p/s: Another reason added to "Why thy shalt not consume fastfood..."

a little too l.o.n.g.

:: Mini Announcement ::
SmashpOp the Free is currently having a pimping pageant to see who among his not so loyal pOppers deserves his attention the most! Head over and join the fun in spamming his comment box until HaloScan contact him for mis-usage of service and ban him! Yeah!

Warning: Clicking on the picture will not redirect you anywhere, noob!

Congratulations to Jed (Come on everybody, cheer me on, clap ya hands for me!). What's the occasion that calls for the cheering? Let's find out ::

Hari Ini dalam Sejarah:
Pada hari ini, lima belas (15) haribulan Jun, dua ribu enam (2006) menandakan tempoh satu bulan Jed sudah tidak menyantap sebarang makanan segera, yanglebih diketahui sebagai "fast food".

Yeapz! I have not eaten any form of fast food for the past month; it's not that I do not want to, in fact, I hunger for it. Deep within me, the fire rages violently, urging and supressing my mind to head into the McD or KFC everytime I pass by, every freaking single day!!! It's just that the cost is too blardy, freaking expensive!!!! Imagine a KFC dinner plate costing somewhere close to $7.50 (if my mind did perceive correctly as it may be distorted by the alluring fragrance of fried chicken).

If I am earning Sing ($), a dollar to ringgit comparison will actually fall in favour of the dollar, as a KFC dinner plate in Malaysia costs close to RM9 (I think most people are aware that the standard of living in KL is actually higher than Singapore; for example, I can still get a place of mixed rice with meat + 2 non-meat side dishes for $2.50). Though I do have an allowance on top of my salary, but paying RM17 for fried chicken(s) is definitely out of the question Call me stingy, call me kam siap, call me whatever you want; but my conciousness always wins over my desire at the last bloody minute.

If you're currently in Singapore and felt pity for me, hear my plead and buy me a meal of fast food will ya? I will be forever grateful for your kindness and to repay you, I shall place your picture in my blog for others (as well as myself) to adore!

a journey yet to e.n.d.

By now, those who has been here should realize that I am indeed in Singapore. If you so happen to not realize it, I suggest that you sacrifice a chicken (the bigger, the better :: a cow is perhaps one of the best option) to the Higher Ones to grant you a bigger brain (satisfaction not guaranteed). As norm, I was communicating with mun yee on YM! when this came up ::

my: june (non-fictional character) thought wat happenned to us
dyvurzen: what happened?
my: she thought somethin bad happenned to us
my: i mean the relationship

dyvurzen: how come?
my: june says: icic...so u n him ok la..i tot u guys not in good terms
my: lol, cos he knew that u were in SG
my: every1 thought u dump me

dyvurzen: so if i work in sg or any other place than kl...
dyvurzen: in their perception is i dump u lar izzit?

my: yalor, every1 thought i dump by u cos c me so free
my: first thing ask me, break up arr?
dyvurzen: siao

my: yaler..
dyvurzen: i gotta put this in my blog
dyvurzen: lolz

my: lol... go gogo

* Some changes has been ammended on the scripts beforehand to protect the privacy of other individuals :: And I have to say that mun yee is damn supportive of me *

Today, 14th June 2006, marks the 4th year, 2nd month of companionship for me and mun yee (becks, jealous or not? *jed releases a loud stream of evil laughs :: buahahaha*) which is equivalent to about 1521 days, which at the other hand is equivalent to about 131,414,400 seconds. That number is of course, insignificant as both of us still have a long journey ahead, which we will be travelling together.

Love you, Ling.
Having you as part of my life has been and will forever be one of the best things that has happened in my life. I dedicate the following to you...

My voice, though faint,
broke the long silence
"I don't know" I said
Looking at me,
she edged closer
My guiding light,
which has led me through,
at times of good,
and bad...

"But we've made it this far"
she said,
caressing my hair
Her soft touch,
comforting as it has always been...

I looked, into the emptiness
Doubt, like darkness that surrounded me,
and Confusion, like fear within me,
filled me thoroughly,
I have lost it again
My will to move,
towards the uncertainty,
ahead

Then she stood,
right in front of me
and looked deep into my eyes
She whispered,
slowly,
"We'll make it through",
"Together"
and she took me, by my hand,
taking the first step,
and I followed her,
towards the future,
of us...

Singa-p.u.r.a.

I underestimated mother nature yesterday by mentioning it was merely raining, in actual fact it was a freaking thunderstorm. It was so heavy and violent that, if happened in KL, multitude of trees would have fallen and roads would have been flooded badly. My hunger was was fast becoming starvation. I suddenly recalled Mariah Carey's "Through the Rain"... and as I looked out the window, I immediately abandoned my thought making it through the rain :: as spiderwebs of lightning flashes in my sight...

It was much later in the evening that I finally get to headout (@ current time, my stomach was filled with biscuits), pondered for a while and decided to head to Merlion Park since I have not been there anyway. Its always fun taking pictures with the water squirting half-lion, half-fish creature (horrendous?). A piece of information from the not so informative moi :: StreetDirectory.com rulezzz!!!

Part of the route taken by me everyday, heading towards Outram Park MRT... Opposite the road will the Singapore General Hospital while further ahead will be Cantontment Police Complex (which is cun!)

Armed with my T5 and Neeon, I headed to Raffles Place (EW Line) and from there, supposed to be a short walk to Merlion Park. Let the statue be my guide... Headed out to Battery Road, and after a distance, I reach Cavenagh Bridge, and according to my trusted map, is still the correct path.

Cavenagh bridge :: The only suspension bridge in Singapore, named after Major General Orfeur Cavenagh (Governor of the Straits Settlement, 1859-1867)

Front view of the bridge :: When travelling through, can feel a very low level, low frequence vibration... takut...

Along the way, it gives a very strong feeling of fusion, where the new meets the old. You have all these century old architectures, existing amongst skyscappers.

Modernization in Singapore, the concrete forests

Along the way, there were some children playing along the river. As a matter of fact, they were stripping and jumping into the river! In broad daylight! The boys were quite daring I should say, not because of the public nudity (come on, children will be children) but because the river were just too "unhygenic" (Imagine the Klang River). I manage to capture a photo of them in action...

"Statues" of children playing by the river... :P

After quite a lot of walking, I was outside of Victoria Theatre instead of Merlion Park, and the squirting statue was no where to be seen. And the durian structure was getting nearer and nearer, I begin having doubt about my "acute" sense of direction...

Forgotten to take a look @ who the statue represents, Sir Stamford Raffles perhaps?

The durian structure getting nearer and nearer in sight...

And congratulations, I reach the Esplanade instead of Merlion park. It was quite a structure, giving a very modern feel to it with some 'protective' aspect. Imagine a parachuter veering off course... OUCH!

Magnificently painful...

Look out for the "Hand of Jed"... Presenting to you, "May-Banged" (OK, OK, I know its kinda lame...)

Esplanade Drive, from down under... Looks too cool for a bridge

So, in the end I found my way back to Merlion Park, thanks to the Tourism Board of Singapore for placing locality maps around the Esplanade. Be proud that the effort has paid off to this lost tourist. Seems like I overshot the park, hence headed back there. When I finally made it there, the reason the main attraction was nowhere to be seen was because...

In case you can't read that, it says :: Excuse me while I take a shower. And to think that my day was already bad enough..... Of all the time, why now?!?!?! When I finally made an effort to come here... *sobz*sobz*

Bah! Anyway, since I was travelling alone (eh, please lar... not that kesian also what...), no choice but to self service... therefore, this is me in Singapore!!!

Not bad mah? Quite leng jai also what...

Next stop, to have a meal of Kuching's Kolo Mee... in Singapore! I had this idea after going through Kenny Sia's entry and his praises for the mee intrigues me (more like sends my hunger pangs running wild). So, there are actually a few Jia Xiangs in Singapore, I know the HQ is in Chinatown and there are branches near Somerset and somewhere else.

I went for the one in Somerset because it was on the NS Line, saving me the trouble of having to change trains. And also, I was hoping I might bump into Mia Tan (Nope, I don't know her, hence the word 'bump') since accorting to him, she lives near there ... hahaha!!! (Eh, I ain't no stalker, ok?) Was quite easy to find, exiting Somerset @ Exit A, turn left. Upon reaching the first traffic lights + pedestrian crossing (The law, I obey), turn left and head straight. The shop will be on your left.

Jia Xiang Sarawak Kuching Kolo Mee... what a name! Shop bananer also like not enough space. Imagine a conversation between A and B...
A: Ei, u try before the Jia Xiang Sarawak Kuching Kolo Mee ah?
B: Hah? Lu Kong Ha Mi?

Ambience was good, the design portrays traditional settings vs some modern elements. Wooden tables (which was kinda low for me) and chairs, with unglossed parquet finishing.

Interior

Looking out :: Look @ the chopstick holder, old-school man!

Upon reaching the counter, I was recommended with the Prawn + Abalone soup mee... But of course, I was here for the original thing; therefore, I ordered the default one.

My kolo mee, the first thing that hit my mind was "eh, so small portion one ah?". BTW, can 'supersize' it one, add money lar.

Since I'm no food critic nor do I specialize in this industry, here's my humble, humble opinion (in comparison to nothing):
The minced meat :: Moist and texturized, but was a bit too 'halus'. It should have a bit fat in it to give a spongy feeling when biting. Taste was ok.
The Char Siew :: I'll give the taste above average, it has great flavouring on the outside while maintaning the pork taste inside. A bit dry though, makes it easily stuck to teeth.
The vege :: Not too soft, not too hard. Just crunchy, nice!
The mee :: No complains here, the mee was soft and spongy... certainly the best portion of the meal! Ah, definitely left me craving for more, just plain kolo me without filling also can.

Emptied bowl (look, chicken spoon... eh, why no chicken chopsticks one???)

And chicken bowl, ironic how a shop that does not sell any food related to chicken using chiky bowls and spoons...

Left the shop a satisfied customer; however, they might consider lowering the price of default kolo mee to somewhere around $3 because $3.90 is indeed a little costly. I guess before heading back to KL, I might conside coming here again for a meal (and hopefully will bump into that 'someone' next time...hahaha!)

Cheers!

yesterday and t.o.d.a.y.

Yesterday was a good night because:
- the air-cond finally got fixed, no longer suffering from severe heat wave
- The FIFA world cup is finally ON! (not that I watch football, just that celebrations keeps me in a good mood...)
- I finally get to sleep earlier after a few days of working late nights (I even missed the bus once and had to walk to the MRT station)
- I have planned out something to keep myself occupied for today

Today, however was a totally different story:
- I woke up pre-maturedly (ok, bad choice of word but am pissed, so i dun give a damn!) due to the freezing air conditioning :: after weeks of doing without one, was not adapting to it yet...
- Neck pain, due to bad sleeping position
- Of all times, it has to rain now... fark! So much for planning ahead...
- I am hungry, very hungry, very, very hungry, very x 47905327964 hungryyyyyyyyyy...

Since I did not head out, I have nothing to blog about (lame excuse).

On the other hand, I remember mentioning that I will blog bout Ah Neeon (does giving it a name makes me sound gay?) that I bought not long ago... I guess, here it is...

Few weeks back, I was still thinking hard, comparing and deciding between getting an IPod Nano (1G) or a Creative Zen Neeon (5G) which was both given 50% discount (for tourists only) in sync with some Great Sale happening here in Singapore (I've mentioned IT one time too many; therefore, does not deserve mentioning anymore). After pondering...
.
.
.
and pondering... (for me it costs, ok?)
.
.
.
and pondering... (a jed got to think when a jed got two things)
.
.
.
and ponder somemore... (annoyed yet?)
.
.
.
just a little more... (wait don't go... come back)
.
.
.
and somemore... (j..u...s..t... a li..ttl..e.... m..or...e....)

There ya go! Since my product range is between these two, let's do a quick review/pros and cons, just to enlighten your curiosity:

Pros of the Creative Zen Neeon 5G
- More storage (is a must, can double as storage space)
- Can tune in to FM radio
- Has recording function, can do voice recording, radio recording, line-in recording
- Customizeable equalizer
- Changeable LED backlights (useless but special mah!)

Cons of the Creative Zen Neeon 5G
- Hard drive based technology, therefore reads memory using a read/write head supported by an arm. This also means that if 'moved' too vigorously, ur player's screwed.
- Navigation sucks, big time.. uses MuVo's 'rocker'
- There seems to be a delay between songs, bout 3-4 seconds... however, it does not really bother me...

Hence, Neeon it is. I headed down to Marina Square's Creative store after work and made my purchase. I was hoping for a blackie, to match the front finishing but there was only orange, red and green left. Heck, orange it is... since, to me, personally, orange and black goes quite well together. Checked the product, made the payment and ta da! I finally have my own mp3 player...

For more information on the product, go Google. Heck, I even place the link to assist you lazy bumps out there...

* I just got lazy... so, no pictures... hahaha!!! *

trip to o.r.c.h.a.r.d.

The previous Saturday, as me and my roomie cum colleague, D has planned earlier on, we decided to head down to Orchard Road to walk around and see chiqs if there's any bargain items to grab, since its the Great Singapore Sale (I think this is the third time I mentioned this... must be due to the damn 7 humongous level of repetitive advertising). Orchard is famous in Singapore for a similar reason as Bintang Walk is famous in KL, I think you kinda get what I mean. If you don't, bang your head on the wall three (3) times and read the previous sentence again. If you still don't get it, bang your head on the wall another three (3) times and re-read the sentence in bold. If you start to feel light headed, that means you are doing great and should increase your banging speed... and remember to keep up the good work...

Planning for the MRT ride, we decided to take the North-East Line and then the North-South Line instead of the East-West Line (actual color-coding representation). The N-E line is a lot newer compared to the other 2, hence cooler air conditioning... I like... :) During our ride, there were minimal amount of people, meaning more air to breath and more space to move about... Uber-Cool!

Dhoby Ghaut station of the North-East Line, even the station looks more modern and sophisticated...

Upon exiting the Orchard Station, we finally have an idead where all the Singaporeans were at that time...

Di sini lah rupa-rupanya hang-hang sekalian sedang bertenggek...

Another view of Orchard with Atrium and Takashimaya (Ngee Ann building) in sight...

Looking opposite, TANG'S or TANGS or whatever in sight...

Off we head to Takashimaya (TSC) after having a hearty lunch. The lunch 'break' was exceptionally long and tiring because we were looking for something cheap to consume... at least cheaper than the price we saw in Atrium where everything costs $5 or more compared to $3 or less for the same thing elsewhere (we're not paid lavish sum of per diem each day to survive).

Inside of TSC, kinda remind me of Berjaya Times Square, quite classy if I shoud comment...

Another view... Dun play-play, got 2 levels of Cartier leh, imagine the amount of Jewellery that requires 2 shoplots...

Then we headed to Apple Center in Wheelock Building (if not mistaken) to catch a glimpse of the sales of 50% discounted IPod Nano 1G. Sold out siut!!! Looks like people still go style over substance...

Nice building structure of the building, there was even spiral escalators, was too amazed that I forgotten to take a picture (I know, I know, I budak Kampung lar...)

After hours and hours of strolling aimlessly, we finally realized that similar to the Bugis Junction incident, we have chosen a wrong place to head to as there's practically nothing much to do in Orchard except to shop, shop, shop and shop summore and shop until you drop... Therefore, moving on, we headed to Plaza Singapura after alighting from the Dhoby Ghaut station (which has an electronic walkway... something similar to the ones they have in airports).

Plaza Singapura, a lot larger than what we had in mind... Look, there's Golden Village Cinema (not belonged to Tanjong group one...)

Upon reaching, I kepoh-ed at a counter where lots and lots of people were queueing up. After a while, I got to know that the product on sale were Tako balls. So many people lining up should be deliciously superb one lor hoh? Being the sucker for food that I am, I lined up... and it was worth the waiting...

The packaging also very nice...

Octopussy Tako balls... Look at da size!!! The texture was just right, not too thick nor thin, the filling was scrumptious and the amount and size of octopussy inside was more than you could ask for!!! Yummy-licious - but was kinda expensive also ler, $2 for 3 balls

Enough adventure for the day, had dinner and headed home...

Naik-Tarikh

This coming weekend, my roommate cum colleague cum fellow Malaysian who has been 'cohabitating' with me for the past month will be heading back to Malaysia and begin working there. And he got more than he bargained for, as the office in Malaysia has yet to be ready for occupation, he get to have a week off!!! A week off man, and he still get paid for that week!!! OMG! I did not even get a week off during my transition from my previous company... DAMN!
* Foul languages coming out non-stop ..... bertalu-talu!!!*

Anyway, once he left, I will be left staying with 3 Indians... dang! The good news is, one of them has decided to quit smoking, means less pollution for me. Good for me, and good for him!!! Well, less one person means less one competition to use the washroom, washing machine, TV... it might turn out to be a good thing! LoLz...

I do have some pictures to post, but I guess that will have to wait as my ancient borrowed laptop have only two USB ports, one is being used for the wireless adapter while the other one is charging my Zen Neeon, which has finally decided to run flat after 14 hours of playing. It's short of 2 hours of the indicated playing time, but it might be due to the fact that I did not charge it fully the other day...

666
Well, yesterday was just another day for me. I read the papers today, where throngs of people decided to get married on this special "ONG" day. There were this particular couple who met on this 06/06, and blah..blah..blah.. (many things happen on this special date) now, decided to get married on this date lar... *wonder if they will choose this date for divorce * ROTFL...

The Omen started yesterday... I dunno what the movie's about, I only know Kristen Dunst is in it... hahaha...

And I also know got this siao person who woke up on 06-06-06 06:06:06 just to snap a picture of himself... siao

Am currently freaking tired... so this will be a boring, no flow, short, informationless entry... goodnight everyone...

The picture p.o.s.t.

Gentleladies and men, may I present to you *drums roll* the not so long awaited picture post!!! Maybe just 8028563204856 nano-seconds...

Interior of Aeroline Bus...

Aeroline Bus (a double-decker), my mode of transportation to Singapore, which will take approximately 5 hours depending in the traffic condition. Heck, the ticket costs RM82.40, helluva expensive; fortunately its claimable from the company *sinister smile*. I wonder, if I travel down by air (Air Asia, do you have a route to Singapore???) will it be cheaper? Anyway, given the price, the service was good. Even before boarding the bus (from KL, Corus Hotel :: Smash's fav), you get complementary Coffee/Tea from the hotel, cool huh? Onto the bus, there will be a personnel catering to your needs during your journey (land steward/stewardess?)...

The seat was comfortable, and each seat comes with a complimentary pillow...lolz and with ample leg area. You'll be provided with actual food (set meals :: consisting of a main meal, drink and dessert). There'll be magazines and movie will be shown, just to keep you entertained. Or you can just sleep. Or you can just hang-out in the lounge area @ the lower deck. Hence's, Aeroline's tagline :: The convenient way to fly (luckily the journey does not come with some safety jacket demos...)

I do not think this is the Johor Straits... I have no idea because I just woke up...

I was walking around a lot looking for the Golden Mile Complex where I stumbled upon this building in Beach Road. Well, from Bugis junction I stumbled to the National Library, Some Gateway building, Some Park Square, and quite a number of buildings before stumbling to The Concourse and hence, Golden Mile Complex!!! At one point, I was reaching Raffles City!!!

Roof of Suntec City, west wing? Just felt that the architecture was nice...

A food court (Kopitiam) in Suntec City, very clean and well mantained... respect!!!

The Fountain of Wealth ... It must be due to the fact that it was not sputting out water at that time as I did not feel any wealthier after that (wallet still kosong!)...

Fortune seekers...

That's all for now... Anyone has any recommendations of places to visit for me???

The Singapore Experience

I'm supposed to post this last night, but could not re-connect after a sequence of disconnections...

Well, as a norm, during the first few weeks of shifting to a new working environment, it will either be freaking free or freaking busy. For me, it was the latter. So, patience my dear readers as the next few entries will only consists of me babbling and mumbling about (text-based entry) without much pictures to see. Just to share some experiences I had here...

Food
Nothing much special here, except that if compared to Malaysia, we can easily find Japanese and Korean food stalls (yes! stalls, not restaurants). One of the more commonly found dish will be Mini Wok Noodle; where you get a bowl of 'kon lou' mee with mushroom toppings and a mini wok with various food items inside (fish ball, pork, pig liver, vege, and so on :: items differ for different stalls). If I am to compare the price here with Malaysia dollar to dollar, its practically cheaper here as we can still get noodles and rice for $2.50. For a stingy person like me, I will always convert before purchasing. Each meal will not only make my heart ache a little, but it also improve my mathematical skills. :P

Transportation
Two thumbs up is not enough to show my appreciation and respect to the transportation system here. Not only is it clean, cheap, its efficient and its frequent. I would rather take public transportation here than to drive around, serious! Else, I can always walk around. Pedestrian walkways and crossings are ample, even cabs are aplenty (and they will take you to wherever you wanna go). Talking bout MRTs, the only annoying thing is that announcements are aplenty, reminding you to:
1. Look out for suspicious items
2. Attend to your belongings
3. Mind the platform gap
4. Eating and drinkin is prohibited
5. Blah Blah Blah
(please be reminded that the reminders are announced in 4 different languages)

In MRTs, there will be 3 major activities going on, mainly:
1. Sleeping
2. Reading
3. Listening to whatever (earphones, headphones attached)

Language
Initially, I was kinda worried as I dun converse well in Mandarin and I don't even know Hokkien. These are the 2 main languages spoken other than English. However, I was quite taken aback when a vast majority of people that I've encountered actually speaks in Cantonese. Not a few, but A LOT! Too much influence from Malaysians?

Shopping malls
There's just too many of them, and it comes in all sizes :: Super large to Minis... Currently I've been to Raffles link, Sim Lim, Marina Square, Bugis Junction, Raffles City, Suntec City, IMM, and a few mini ones. And wadaya know, its all well connected, you just just travel from one shop to another seamlessly! BTW, just to inform everyone that the Great Singapore Sale (GSS 2006) is currently ongoing. I got myself a Neeon-5G(will blog bout it later) for half the price, because I'm a tourist. :). Sames promotion goes to IPod Nano (1G), going off @ 50% for tourists... Cool huh?

Well, I guess that's all I have for today. For more updates, do stay in tune. Cheers from Jed in Singapore.
