To mothers all around the world, Happy Mother's Day. In Malaysia, its a period of time when all those healthcare product advertisements come into full force, massage chairs, health supplements, so on and so forth; don't you think so? Some pretty touching, some informative and educational, others totally ridiculous. I especially liked the one where the child wrote vouchers for his mother but I totally couldn't recall from which company, was it Astro?
One voucher was for helping her to do laundry, duration, one month. Another for helping her do dishes with one month validity. Then it shows him fallen asleep while/after cleaning the house as the mother sits down and scrolls through all the other vouchers. Then, the final one declares his love for her, duration, none/infinite, so touching. But then, the moment is normally shortlived as my mum would proceed to compare that boy in the ad with me, that I should help out more with houseworks lah, see the boy so young already so helpful and obedient lah, and such. Sheesh.
Other than that, I always come across articles or comic strips where on Mother's Day, the children and husband would team up to clean the house and whip out something special for lunch/dinner. Cleaning is still alright but cooking is quite impossible in my house. You see, the queen of the kitchen is very particular of her zone of absolute control. Messy, later kena nag. Dirty, later kena nag. Not in order, later kena nag. Wet and slippery, later kena nag. Cannot like this, cannot cook like that, fire too big, not enough oil, put more salt and so on. I personally have experienced all of the above when I tried to fry some noodles the other time, lols. Cannot make it one lah.
Henceforth, we sebulat suara decided that Mother's Day should be celebrated by eating out and that's how this special day is celebrated in the Wong's family, every year without fail. Not that we get to decide where to eat also, aihhhh... I think I've said enough. Once again, Happy Mother's Day to all mums.
