When the choices are limited, I complain about having to eat the same thing over and over, and over again.
When the choices are abundant, I complain about having to decide on what to eat over and over, and over again. Oh, the agony of being spoilt for choices.
Its the latter that I'm going through lately as I usually have lunch by myself when working at the client's office. At least I can push some decision making to E when in the office. Going together with my colleagues means having the same cuisine at the same location again while going with the client is just plain weird (different industry = different channel altogether).
In actual fact, its not that bad/cham/kesian a thing. Looking at things from the brighter side, at least you get to (I'm not consoling myself OK?):
- take your own sweet time
- eat what you feel like having, appetite can be random
- eat in peace, no need to layan others
- spend some quality time with yourself
The last one is a totally wtf point and can be ignored. One of the obstacles that I always face when dining alone is getting an empty seat, especially when Tissue Culture is being practised. Well, the solution is pretty simple, just choose the right time as well as the right place, given that you have flexibility on your lunch hour:
- if you're planning for the food court/food stalls, be sure to head there a little later, the crowd would usually disperse starting 1.15pm. Else, you can always opt to share table.
- thinking about take away, head out as early as possible, sharp at noon would be the best because a certain amount of packages are readily available to cater for lunch hour
- for restaurants, head out earlier as well, higher execs normally lunch later
And there you have it, Jed's simple guide to having lunch alone in the Central Business District (CBD) of Singapore. If you find it irrelevant, you've just wasted the last few minutes reading it. If you find it relevant, I am always available for lunch, hahaha.
