FYI, the time I'm typing this, I've already been to Cafe Cartel twice, all hail Jed the procrastinator. Been wanting to dine there but long-lasting queues (Plaza Singapura branch) had been a strong withdrawal factor. The day I finally found out that they opened in IMM was a day of jubilation as I threatened E to accompany me for a meal there. Good news comes in pair, no queue! I let E browsed through the menu a little before forcing him in, then there was no turning back.
Found the place a little crammed (made me feel fat) or maybe its just me, which is not a good thing since I'll be eating less. Ahaha... haha... Ok, not farny.
Nice and cosy little place. We always get the table of four even though there's only 2 of us with twin seatings available.
At least they provided free flow of sky juice. *ahems* miss julia, no NEWater jokes here okay? *ahems*
The variety offered ranges from appetizers to soups, snacks and salads, main courses of MEAT (there's even a PURE MEAT dish ZOMG), pasta or seafood, desserts and drinks. For the main courses, you can just chuck-in $3.60 additionally to get a soup, a drink and free flow of freshly baked-bread. I placed the order for St. Louis PORK RIBS while E decided to have some Hawaiian Pork Chops. And we waited...
I almost forgot. In addition to the main courses, we ordered a dish of Ham & Egg Club Sandwich due to an overwhelming temptation just by looking at its image. Behold the power and influence of a good piccah. Then, first attempt to get bread, failed! Second attempt to get bread, failed again! Third attempt included a reconnaissance before deployment of troops, success! Nak makan roti pun susah as every single serving only consisted 4 loaves of bread. Bread + chunk of butter, yumsss...
Ice Peach Tea with a slice of lemon. Weird.
Corn Soup, yucks! I hate corn soup, moreover, it didn't go well with bread. The second visit was better as they served mushroom soup.
Bread. Fresh bread. The texture is similar to baguettes, hard on the outside, soft on the inside.
The mentioned irresistable sandwich. Just look at the layers of golden brown toasted bread, eggs, ham and cheese. *drools* The uniqueness is a mid-layer of toasted bread, resulting a crunchy texture to every bite. But, it was a little salty for me.
Hawaiian Pork Chop. 3 slices of meat, with fries, grilled cucumbers and carrots. According to E, when he visited the PlazaSing branch, they served 5 pork chops! 0_0" No wonder always long queue.
PORK RIBS. Quite huge portion. I've been dreaming of the day I can finally have some soft, tender and juicy ribs. And it did not disappoint. Next in line, Tony Romas!!!
Bone Collector wtf.
The second time we came, we had this feeling that the menu was a little limited, though the choices were many, its almost the same. Yet again, was tempted to order the chocolate brownies+ice-cream but didn't. I took some Chicken thingy (normal) while he took some other BBQ ribs (a little dry, lack of sauce) and we took a seafood platter (not bad, even served scallops!) Hence, we decided that it would probably be quite some time before we're back again. But the overall dining experience was quite good, food was alright and affordable, service wise, nothing too bad. And not only were the service charges waived, CitiBank card holders get an additional 10% discount. ><
Just to satisfy your curiosity, the final bill (after discount) came to about $42 dollars.
